Subject: My posts from Facebook on the latest non-development saga that is Prospect Park.....

Hey Gang,

This is all incredibly reminiscent of what we saw with the cancellations. Actors tweeting that everything is fine and that horrible cloud will descend once again as I sit by and watch another horror show. I was reminded of it all today. I had forgotten the sting of it. I had forgotten how painful it was. I was reminded of it today. That feeling I had when I said that AMC and OLTL were being cancelled and nobody wanted to listen at the time. People would bring over every tweet they could from actors and people at ABC assuring us that all was well. Tweets from other journalists were posted on my wall assuring us that the shows were safe. I had to sit back and watch. My wall was littered with tweet after tweet assuring us that the shows were not being cancelled and yet my sources were so clear and so strong. They told me to hang tight. I did that for four long months before the truth came out. It was a horrible experience for me. I was on my own island and everyone else was singing ABC's praises and saying that the actors were telling us that all was well (and only because they were lied to so utterly). This is complete déjà vu for me.

I cannot go through it again (especially now). All I can tell you is that I will be crying honest tears of joy if Prospect Park truly comes through, and speaks to us out of eight long months of pure silence. I will be genuinely ecstatic to the point where right or wrong doesn't matter if OLTL truly makes it online, because I will have my beloved show back again. That means so much more to me than right or wrong. This show has been a lifeline for me throughout the years. When my mom died. When I first got cancer in my twenties. When I came home from the hospital recently from having my breasts removed, this show was the only constant and safe thing in my life. The one gentle pleasure I have to just lose myself in and feel nothing but comfort, familiarity, and joy. Never in all the years that I have ever reported anything have I been so personally upset. I cried tonight over this news and that's something I have never done before over a soap scoop. I couldn't bear to even watch the show today. It's in my queue waiting for me but it's that emotional for me. These actors. These characters that I have grown up with. I have been watching since I was a little girl. What I was told today by two people who I respect and admire was heartbreaking. If they are right, we are all being played. Frank and Ron already have jobs at PP that will carry them through whether OLTL goes online or not (different capacities to keep them busy and employed by PP). What about the actors who have been going on nothing but pure faith. What about us?

If they come up with some excuse in the 11th hour and tell the actors that they had unforeseen issues that make this venture impossible at this time, they will make a great many enemies out there. They have already broken the hearts of AMC fans everywhere who had faith in them and believed in them. If they surprise us all and prove true in the end, than there is reason to have faith again. For now, it's April 2011 all over again for me. I cannot believe anything that is said or tweeted at this point. I must see this in action now. After what I was told today, I won't be placated so easily anymore. I have given you PP scoops and feel very played right now. I don't like feeling played. I thought about keeping this to myself but after hearing what Silas had to say. After visiting Jamey's Twitter (thank you for the link Lisa), and after visiting Soaps In Depth's page as well, I knew that this fire was more than just smoke. What I had been hearing suddenly took on a great deal of weight. I could not keep quiet and say nothing. It's just not me. It's not who I am. I pray I am wrong. Prove me wrong Prospect Park. Why the 8 months of pure silence? We have given you your space in abundance. We didn't crowd you. Let me be wrong. Let us all have worried for nothing. Don't break our hearts again. Hell hath no fury like a soap fan scorned. That's a lesson you don't want to learn. We don't like being played.

I guess it's just a waiting game at this juncture and wait we must........

In the meantime, my heart goes out to all of you. I am incredibly saddened and feel little encouragement at this moment. As an aside, Thank you all for your continued prayers and notes of love and support, which have helped me tremendously with my recovery. Reading my Facebook wall has been like walking on a soft cloud filled with nothing but kindness and love. I have a tough road ahead of me, but having all of you in my life makes it all the more bearable. I love you....

I really and truly do.....XOXO!

My heart is breaking for all the wonderful cast members and behind the scenes crews at this development. Along with you I am praying for a "reprieve" that will prove to be a life line to save our beloved shows. I must be careful to not let the anger I feel toward TPTB overwhelm me to where I cannot calmly and lucidly sift through the information that is out in relation to this "debacle". That you are a still bearing up under all this shows us all just how strong and commited you are to not just your recovery but the soap opera genre that is such a familiar and comforting presence in our lives. My prayers for you are in overdrive and I again thank you for being a beacon of light during a very dark time. God bless you darlin'.

I read that Prospect Park has decided it only needs one soap opera for their new Internet channel, The Online Network. Unless there are a lot of actors who refuse to go, I think OLTL will be the choice since the ratings for GH are lower.

I already started watching Y & R in addition to GH. Two characters from GH are on the show and according to rumors another actor from GH might end up there too.

While I will be very sad to see the show I once watched with my mom, end, I know life changes like the seasons, and it is better to look at the open doors of the future then spend too much time staring at the closed doors of the past.

Sad to hear whats happening with OLTL Considering GH is doing so poorly right now I know I will be losing my BEST soap that I have watched for over 30 years-IT WILL BE CANCELLED and now it has no where to go either.(my heart breaks)
What gets me frustrated is that according to recent press releases THE CHEW IS gain more and more viewers each week. Could it be that our LOYAL SOAP FANS are now watching the enemy-what gives who is tuning in to view this garbage!
Hope its not the die hard soap fans, I'd be appalled!!
I'd be curious to find out if the weekly reports are accurate and if they include viewers that tape or PVR the Soaps, which is how I've been viewing it for years!!

While changing the channels I noticed The Chew is all about Thanksgiving ideas and receipes. I am sure they will use the rest of the holiday season to their advantage. Its definately a way to draw in viewers for a while; however hopefully after New Year the ratings will decline.

I wouldn't put too much validity into The Chew's ratings...after all, it is ABC, and we all know by now that The Mouse lies.

I am never going to waiver but I figured ABC would capitalize on pushing holiday recipes and they have been promoting themselves as the Thanksgiving headquarters. It will decline after the New Years.

latest Prospect Park business sucks balls and I know how much OLTL means to you, but try not to let this derail your recovery. Let us be mad for you. I am pretty pissed the way all this sounds. Although I am generally a glass-half-full kind of chick so I'm still clinging to a bit of hope for OLTL.

Thanks for the information Raven. I appreciate both your unwavering honesty and your kindness in taking the time to tell us the truth as you know it. OLTL has been a part of my daily life since my teens and our family life for decades. OLTL has helped us through some very difficult times. Our family rejoiced at the Prospect Park deal and we promised ourselves that we would do whatever it took for us to be able to continue to watch this beloved show and to support Prospect Park in anyway possible. We have always hoped for the best but we have been around long enough to be skeptical of anything TPTB say. We have wondered if this PP deal weren't simply an elaborate facade to placate fans for the time being. We are firm believers in hoping for the best but planning for the worst. We watch other Prospect Park and ABC shows now and enjoy them. However, once OLTL leaves the ABC lineup, so do we. If we are indeed being played and betrayed in such a cruel fashion about what we have been told regarding OLTL's online life and it does not happen as expected, then we can gurantee that all things Prospect Park will be joining everything ABC related on our do not watch this show/channel list. Hell hath no fury, like a soap fan scorned. Here's hoping Prospect Park lives up to their word. Either way, we will live up to ours.

I have never posted but have followed you Raven and you are a woman of courage and integrity. Girl, you are fierce.
I just want to say I also have deja vu and flashbacks to April of this year. I think it would be simple for PP to make a statement. Whether it's that OLTL has been delayed indefinitely due to funding or that the deal is dead. At this point, PP is playing us just like ABC and Frons played everybody back in March and April. Somebody needs to keep on them. Its not that hard to issue a simple statement. A little honesty would be refreshing.

We will soon find out if PP has been playing us or not. Like you, our hearts go out to the actors particularly if they have been mislead and lied to by FV and RC.

My blood boiled today when I watched Bob Iger come on Regis to tell him how important Regis was to ABC Disney plus generous Bob put a plaque on the ABC building in NYC dedicated to Regis. Iger who once worked on OLTL, I believe, said he had been with ABC 40 years and Regis for 30 years and how important Regis was to Disney ABC. I wonder if Big Bad Bob visited the OLTL set today as ABC Disney was having actors clean out their dressing rooms with 2 days notice.

You have presented your fears with grace and reason. I share those fears. I think in the end, we are going to end up with completely shelved projects. I'm very concerned. Raven, I only recently found your blog and wish I'd discovered it sooner. I wish you all the best with making a full recovery -- I'm sending many positive thoughts your way!

I, too, feel disillusioned and disheartened by the PP rumors/news. I didn't realize how much the last day of OLTL taping would affect me. I decided today to wear my black "So Long Springfield" sweatshirt for the first time since GL ended in 2009. OLTL's end will affect me more, even if it's only the network conclusion. If there's no hope with PP, I'll be even more depressed, but I'm still clinging to a tiny bit of hope.

Thank you for being honest and forthright, both regarding soaps and with your own personal battle. You are an inspiration in many ways.

If Prospect Park is lying to us all this time I want you to know Raven that for me I want to still continue to be able to reach you and hear from you if this god forbid turns out to be true. Please do not take your site down because not hearing from you ever again would also break my heart. As for me I will continue not to watch the Chew or any other show in place of our soaps on ABC. Please let us know how we can let TPTB how we feel about the loss of our soaps. I agree - I have watched OLTL, AMC and GH for 30 years! How can they take it from us? I want to throw my tv out the door everytime that CHEW music starts playing on my tv. I used to love SoapNet because I could watch my soaps on the weekends since I worked during the week. Then, SoapNet stopped airing most of my fav soaps except in the middle of the night. So, I went to DVR to record my soaps and now they are taking them away completely. I am heartsick and I think that we need to do something to save our soaps. That is where I go to escape the real world. So, what do we get in exchange for OLTL? Another talk show? Another cooking show? I swear I will NEVER watch ABC again - with the ONLY exception of GH. They will probably take that from us too. HELP

Raven,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Always enjoyed reading your columns and impressed with the accuracy of the scoops you have given over the years. First, my prayers and good thoughts go to you. And, how nice of you to keep all your supporters up to date on how you are doing. Believe me we are all thinking of you. Second, I was always suspicious on whether AMC and/or OLTL would make it to Prospect Park. The lack of information provided was a red flag. These are professionals and yet, they can't seem to get their act together. It would be a shame that all the fans that were hopeful, may now be dashed. I have tried to watch other shows. I watched DOOL years ago and got back into it figuring I would be somewhat familiar with characters. It is ok, but not sure if I will continue. Y&R to me, has too much going on. It has very little focus now. Anyway, thanks again for your insight.

[> Kimberly McCullough.......................... -- Ravenbeauty, 08:36:33 11/22/11 Tue [1]

Hey Guys,

I was just coming here to post this as my inbox has been blowing up with questions about Kimberly McCullough. The following blurb is from my October 15th column:

As I hinted at several columns back, a huge female favorite is about to break many a heart out there as she waves goodbye to Port Charles. This one is going to hurt.......

Yes, Kimberly is out, and as I warned you in my latest column, this is only the beginning of a rather large mass exodus that is about to descend on us like a cloud. I cannot imagine the show without her, but we are going to have to get used to the idea here very soon. I expect denials as usual, and despite the fact that she may return later to tie up loose ends, is not indicative of a reprieve. Unless she has a change of heart, she’s out…

We love you Kimberly, and wish you well in your future endeavors! You are part of the very fabric of General Hospital. You will be missed. God bless and good luck to you! XOXO!

Very sad about Kimberly. And yes, you certainly called this one. The show is unrecognizable. The only ones who will be left will be that horrid nuKate, Olivia, Abby, Carly and Liz. I've heard a rumor about Kelly Monaco leaving as well.

And the rest of the show is equally bad. Who is this Sonny? He's not the character I used to love. Could they make him look any worse?

It will be very said if Robin dies and equally sad if Brenda, Anna and Robert aren't there. This show is awful.

I wonder if Kimberly/Robin's exit is also the also the"heartbreaking story coming up that will leave not a dry eye in the house" that Ravenbeauty referred to in the August 11 and 24 columns.

It's sad enough that Kimberly is leaving, but the thought of Robin having a heart breaking exit (HIV? death?) makes me doubly sad for Kimberly and the fans, and furious at Garin.

Hey Gang,

I wanted to take a moment and give thanks for all the many blessings I've been given this year. As horrific as this battle has been, you guys have made it more bearable in ways you can't imagine. Your many notes and posts have meant the world to me. I've had some annoyances and setbacks, but I am going to soldier through them (A rather large and painful Seroma has developed on the right side near my incision, which is going to be drained manually via a needle next Wednesday). I guess I just wouldn't be me without complications. I really need a break from all the doctors right now (which is what my Oncologist wanted for me), so this Seroma has me a little angry and frustrated, but it is what it is. Hopefully it will not become infected, and I can just move forward again without incident. I won't need to repeat the PET scan until February, so I am hoping the Seroma will go down and not refill and I will get that break I need from all of this for a while. In the meantime, I am grateful to you for your incredible love and support. I hope that each and every one of you has a blessed and beautiful Thanksgiving no matter where you are and what you choose to do tomorrow. I love you guys! XOXO! ♥♥♥

Well, with PP having to cover off ABC's licensing fees, they were already trying to fund the venture with one hand tied behind their back.

So there we have it -- corporate greed wins at every turn.

Don't tell me that these soaps were losing money, because I just don't buy it. They simply weren't making as much money as other vehicles because they were comparatively more expensive to produce. That doesn't mean that the talk shows and "lifestyle shows" are more popular; just that they need to meet a lower threshold for ROI.

The only option left now is an ABC and ABC sponsor (much more important!) boycott. A Disney boycott. Jeez, I hate Disney!

And how I hate "lifestyle shows" and talk shows and reality shows; I want quality, scripted dramas dammit!!

There is precious little value in these talk shows and lifestyle shows -- I am sick of them, and don't turn them on. People incessantly droning on how to improve this or that, how to live, what to think, dumb celebrity guests... god, how they bore me. I'm not a child, and don't want to be condescended to by people I consider to be less capable or less intelligent than I am, thank you very much.

I've been watching ABC Soaps for about 40 years, ever since I was 4 years old. I remember when Erica Cane was young... what a gift, what an amazing gift, to be able to watch a character and her portrayer through the decades!

I've moved all over the continent, all over the world, I've had my bout of cancer, I've stayed home from work with my babies, and through it all, through grade school, high school, university, I've watched these soaps. They have been one of only a handful of touchstones in my life, things I was able to return to, time and time again. To enjoy the comfort and the continuity of that familiar world.

Bad writing and bad network management has caused a lot of damage in the past dozen years, but there was always hope. AMC lost its edge, GH lost its focus, but OLTL never failed (well, maybe the Eterna storyline...).

This week, for the first time in 10 years, I watched GH, and was struck by what an amazing actor Jonathan Jackson is. I tuned out around the time he left because GH was going off in strange directions, and it was just too much to follow. But Genie Francis, Tony Geary, Jonathan Jackson, John Ingle... well, they are just magic. (shame, shame on ABC for killing off Stuart Damon! and Emily!)

These soaps were a thread that bound my life, and now they are gone...

Well, I am rapidly leaving tv as a whole. There is less and less quality scripted drama, and for the most part, I hate "reality tv".

The current corporations are run by the jerks I met in business school (I quit after a semester because they made me so disgusted). There is no long-term consideration in their analysis, just short-term profit and greed. Well, they've killed the golden goose in their short-sightedness. I am sure that I am not the only one turning completely away from network tv. I've been betrayed too often. They did not care about what made me a loyal viewer and so I am no longer loyal and no longer a viewer in turn.

Network television has been butchered by the same MBA geniuses who destroyed the world economy, and for the same reason.

What a waste.
