Hey Gang,

Something has gone awry with all the threads here, so I am reposting my latest column again while Voy.Com tries to figure out what may have happened, and hopefully fix the error. It may take a while. Sorry that all of your original replies are gone, but hopefully everything will be restored shortly. I am putting out a copy for the people who may not have read my latest column yet.

Grab a nice, hot, latte and get ready to sit a spell as I throw a few suds your way this early Friday morning. The lather is getting thicker out there, but it will be thinning out soon enough, and you will finally be able to see the forest from the trees. Pilot season always muddies up the waters a bit, however I have not heard anything different in regards to Roger Howarth or his imminent return to OLTL. If I get any updates or anything to contradict what I was originally told, I will update you immediately (for now, it's a waiting game). I have said it before, and I will say it again. It's not about being right or wrong for me. It's simply about being honest one way or another. I would love to have some little red phone hooked up in my room that rings daily with updates, but that's just not reality. I would never dream of asking my sources the same questions every week for fear of putting them off. I know how annoying this can be, and the last thing I want is for them to dread having to deal with me (a sure fire way to lose a source). I thank them for what they offer and never press them any further. I get tidbits only....never a play by play. Just sit tight, enjoy the show, and watch for the clues (many on their way as we speak).

For new readers, please take note of what I wrote in my first two columns back. I am no longer dishing for AMC. I had a fabulous casting source for many years, but that person works in a completely different capacity now at ABC. Long time readers know that I will always be brutally honest with you. AMC is a dead issue for many reasons. The next big news you get for AMC will not come from me. It will probably come from the magazines before the end of the year. They are merely rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Enjoy it while you can. It's just not worth it at this point. Believe me, I take no joy in saying this...none.

I am sure news of Rebecca Herbst's (Liz-GH) stay of execution has made its way across the internet by now. What a perfect example of how nothing is ever set in stone. This situation has everyone talking. The show had made its decision, and even left out one of their traditional parting remarks, and yet here we are. I told you the mood was a somber one with many cast mates tweeting and speaking out on Becky's behalf. If you are a fan who wrote in and furiously called ABC regarding the news that she was let go from the show, pat yourself on the back. Between the fans and the staff backstage at GH, a little miracle happened and the show decided to rethink their original decision. I'm told that hugs were everywhere when the news broke backstage. Rebecca should feel honored and loved. Wonderful news! Stories have been altered a bit now that she is staying, however a very sad event will still take place in Liz's life.

Finally, thank you so much for all your incredibly kind notes and e-mails these past two weeks. This flu has been mind numbing. If you are down with this thing, my prayers go out to you. It makes you feel like you are literally dying. Just know that the worst will pass (I say this because I kept telling my friend who was taking care of me that it was never going to end). I am only now able to do stuff for myself. Crazy two weeks. I guess there is no dodging that flu shot anymore! What a freaking nightmare (still feel like hell, but at least I don't feel like a 100 year old invalid anymore)! I had to smile when they said they detected active Mono as well. What a nice touch! At least now, I know why I couldn't do things like walk to my kitchen for a cup of tea without it feeling like a marathon! Thank God for my friend (that and Prednisone)!

OK guys, freshen up, and get comfy. Here is this week's latest dish.........

Ravenbeauty's OLTL Dish

That golden haired lass with all the backstage brass still can't find her story. They keep throwing her into one story after another with nothing but crickets chirping into the night. They are getting desperate to make this work. Clint may be the only man not thrown her way, and that's saying plenty. Cutter will be tested with three Llanview lovelies when all is said and done. Aubrey will need to watch her back when Cutter finally turns on her, and he will. Aubrey's back-story is coming. I'm told it's a sad tale destined to make us understand the root of all her evil. It will do nothing to console a very angry Joey. Joey is disgusted when the news finally surfaces (with papa Buchanan threatening to use the chip to annul the dreaded marriage).

Viki is utterly heartbroken when she learns the truth about Charlie. It pushes Viki over a very dangerous edge. Echo delights in this believing it will bring Charlie back into her arms again. Echo's new game has tragic consequences. Rama uses her newfound power where Clint's concerned. Do not look for a quick wrap up to the DNA twists and turns. They are building arcs now that will play out over the next few months. Nothing is as it seems (and Marty's hands are not so clean either).

I am hearing loud and clear that an extremely popular leading man is very unhappy with the direction his character has taken. Sensing the obvious, he is taking matters into his own hands. Fans will not be happy if he bolts, but he's not happy creatively or otherwise right now. Sources say this is not a dress rehearsal. This may indeed be a final run through. The word is that the feeling is mutual (ouch)!

Tess causes more chaos that will have lasting effects on many in Llanview. Clint blames Brody, and Tess is thrilled to be free again. Tess is like a bull in a china shop. She will knock down many delicate pieces along the way before she is finally stopped. Natalie shows us a familiar fire once again when she decides to fight the only way she knows how. Todd is not the only one hurt in Llanview. A female will be left fighting for her life as well.

Ravenbeauty's GH Dish

I told you months back that a child will die. Unless this has been rewritten due to Rebecca Herbst's change of status with the show, look for some heart wrenching scenes coming your way. Liz is devastated and so are other Port Charles residents who think they may be the ones responsible. Sam will be convinced of this, but Sam is not the culprit (she will be one of a few red herrings). Lucky finds solace in a familiar friend. Liz learns the truth about Aidan's paternity.

Speaking of Sam, there will be some very painful bridges to cross for the lovely private eye. Sam is sicker than anyone realizes. Michael shows us his Corrinthos side when it comes to Franco. He's determined to seek vengeance against Franco no matter what the cost. As I told you before, Suzanne knows exactly where the baby is, however she has a very big surprise coming her way that will shake her to her very foundation. The catfights are on their way. Look for Brooke Lynn and Liz to bare their fangs and claws where Nikolas is concerned.

Liz will spiral out of control, however Nikolas and Lucky are there to pick up the pieces after Jake is gone. Jason is beside himself over the news of Jake and Sam. Alexis finds herself involved in a custody battle (not her own) and Carly and Jax are said to be over. Lucky and Siobhan tie the knot. Theo has more layers than an onion and shows us the ruthless side that has always kept Suzanne living in fear of him. Carly and Shawn will get thisclose, which sets off a chain reaction with Sonny.

Ok gang, that's it for this week! Time to make our usual rounds to get all the scoops and spoils coming your way for the next two weeks! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! XOXO!

TV Guide Interview With Erika Slezak!

Now this is a superstar. Erika Slezak, winner of an unprecedented six best actress Emmys as Victoria Lord (Gordon Riley Burke Riley Buchanan Buchanan Carpenter Davidson Banks!) on One Life to Live, will celebrate her 40th anniversary with the soap on March 17. (The show airs an hour-long homage to this grandest of grande dames April 26.) TV Guide Magazine sat down for a chat with Slezak about all things Viki — the men, the magic, the memories.

TV Guide Magazine: What emotions wash over you when you contemplate this milestone?

Slezak: It's kind of weird, really. Before OLTL, I had never been on television. They said, "We're giving you a job for two years." That turned into four, then six, then 10, but how did we reach 40? It's kind of scary to think I've been in one place so long. [Laughs] But at the same time it's awesome!

TV Guide Magazine: You've never seemed driven to prove yourself outside of soaps. How come?

Slezak: Because OLTL still writes for me — every couple of years I get an amazing story — and they still pay me every Friday. It's tough for women in this business. Once you get those lines on your face it's like, "See ya. You're too old." But you can transcend that in daytime. I was never the ingénue or the juvenile. I was never movie-star beautiful. Oh, you could put makeup on me and pass me off, but I was never what people were looking for in those days — they weren't looking for actresses, they were looking for pretty people — but in a crazy way that turned out to be the best thing possible. This job has allowed me to have it all. My most important thing in life is being a mother and a wife. Thanks to ABC, I was home every night. I cooked dinner. We did homework. I never missed the important days at school, the plays, the Christmas concerts. We did it all.

TV Guide Magazine: You are part of a thrilling show business clan. Your grandfather, Leo Slezak, was a great opera tenor. Your father, Walter Slezak, was a beloved character actor and a Tony winner. Was it a given you'd go into the biz?

Slezak: Not at all! When I told my father I wanted to be an actress he sat me down for an hour or two and tried to scare the s--t out of me. "It's brutal! You won't work! People will tell you you're too short or too thin or too this or too that!" [Laughs] Well, nobody ever told me I was too thin! During World War II, my father worked in Hollywood under contract to RKO and was cast as a lot of Nazis [Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat, Jean Renoir's This Land is Mine]. But then, as soon as the war was over, they dropped him because he had played Nazis — which he did at their request! And he didn't work again for almost five years. So his advice to me was always, "Save your money!"

TV Guide Magazine: Prior to OLTL you were a theater actress, trained in England. Any qualms about taking soap work?

Slezak: The most I ever made in repertory theater was $175 a week, so no! [Laughs] [OLTL] was willing to pay me more money than I'd ever made before and that's all I needed to know. Nobody ever said, "Don't do it." Though in later years I'd come across a bit of an attitude. I'd run into Ed Limato, was a very famous agent at ICM when I was starting out, and he'd say, "You still on that stupid soap?" I ran into Tommy Lee Jones a few years after he'd left OLTL and it was the same sort of thing. "You still on that show?" Tommy went off and had a wonderful career, but that doesn't happen to everybody. People still put daytime down, but most of them can't do it. They're used to doing film where you shoot maybe a couple of pages a day. My father became very proud of what I was doing. He even made a guest appearance on OLTL for three days or so, and when he left he said, "I never want to do that again! That's the hardest work I've ever done in my life!" For him, it was panic time from the moment he got there to the moment he finished. [Laughs] I said, "Welcome to daytime!"

TV Guide Magazine: Why has Viki stood the test of time?

Slezak: I credit [OLTL creator] Agnes Nixon. She developed an extremely unique character who is very bright and nonjudgmental yet deeply flawed because of her multiple personalities. Viki can be an aristocrat or a streetwalker. [Laughs] How do you top that?

TV Guide Magazine: Despite Viki's nine marriages, we don't think of her as an emotional fruitcake — like we do, say, with Erika Kane — or that Viki is disastrously unlucky in love. If, anything she's been a sensational partner.

Slezak: She's been very lucky in love, I think because she always marries for love. Well, except when she married Steve Burke. But other than that, she always goes into marriage with the very best of intentions. And with very real intentions. She's truly loved her men. Also, don't forget her marriage tally is high because a bunch of her husbands have died — Joe [Lee Patterson], Sloan [Roy Thinnes], Ben [Mark Derwin]. The only one she divorced over and over was Clint [Clint Ritchie].

TV Guide Magazine: Most stars in daytime would be blessed to be part of one supercouple during their careers. You've done it several times.

Slezak: I've been fortunate in that they've given me partners who were willing to share. Not every actor is unselfish. A lot of them are very selfish indeed and it's always all about them. Fortunately, I've never had that kind of guy. Even Clint, who wasn't necessarily the best actor in the world, was so wonderfully natural and pure and touching that we made a great pair. They used to call us The Cowboy and the Lady. I'm not saying Clint was a bad actor. He was a real-life cowboy. He wasn't used to acting, and television. But we found something that worked. Viki brought out a sweetness in him.

TV Guide Magazine: Let's talk about the downside of 40 years — the deaths and the losses, most especially the loss of Clint Ritchie and Phil Carey [Asa].

Slezak: To this day I'm still shocked that Phil and Clint died within the same week. How bizarre that was! It's especially hard knowing Clint is gone. Phil had been sick with lung cancer for a couple of years. We knew that he probably wouldn't be with us long. And he knew it, too. I mean, he smoked a hundred cigarettes a day at least. But Clint? That was out of the blue. Bucky died! When I heard the news it seemed so surreal. Whaat? How could it be? And Lee Patterson! I so loved working with Lee. He's gone, too. We had so much fun together. It's hard to think of them all being gone. I really miss Phil. As big as Asa's presence was on screen, Phil's presence was even bigger in the studio. Trust me, when Phil Carey was in the building, you knew it. [Laughs] And it was wonderful!

TV Guide Magazine: How have you coped with the changes in daytime? The audience erosion? The budget cuts?

Slezak: It's very sad to realize there are only six soaps left and that OLTL is the only one remaining in New York. When I joined, there must have been 20 soaps on the air! I guess it's the times, the economy. The budget cuts are necessary for us to stay afloat but I do see that they are making certain cuts — how do I say this? — that are not necessarily productive, especially when they make our crew double up and triple up on things. Quality is lost when one cameraman is trying to run two cameras at the same time, and it doesn't necessarily save time. It may save money but it doesn't save time. [OLTL executive producer] Frank Valentini is very good at working with what he's got and he keeps the morale up. He always makes a point of showing his appreciation. That's the good thing about our show. We keep going as a team. Sure, there are always one or two who prefer to remain outsiders, but for the most part we are a team.

TV Guide Magazine: How have you handled the incessant cancellation rumors?

Slezak: When OLTL moved studios, people were saying, "We're being canceled." When they moved All My Children to L.A. it was the same thing. "They're being canceled." But why would ABC spend all that money to move both shows and then drop them? You have to be reasonable about it. There is still a big and viable and devoted audience for our show. But if we get canceled, we get canceled. What can you do? I've had 40 years — that's 38 more than I thought I was going to have. I can't complain. And I did what my father said. [Laughs] I saved my money!

TV Guide Magazine: Robin Strasser [Dorian] told me she was kinda freaked when she heard Kim Zimmer was returning to OLTL as Echo — understandable given Zimmer's über-persona and rep for scene stealing. But Strasser said you calmed her down, assuring her that Zimmer's return was a very good thing. That gave me some real insight into you.

Slezak: Kim coming back to the show was a freakin' brilliant opportunity. Robin was indeed concerned. She came to me and said, "Erika, I just don't know about this." But I told her this could only be good for our characters and the show. Bringing back Echo delved into our history and brought up all that old animosity. It's just fabulous! And Kim is such a joy.

TV Guide Magazine: So you're not prone to feeling threatened?

Slezak: People in this business are so worried about being supplanted. But I just can't think about that. I just focus on holding my own.

TV Guide Magazine: So what's the scoop on your special homage episode?

Slezak: I haven't seen the script yet but I think it's going to include a lot of me. [Laughs] No flashbacks or anything. I think they're going to dredge up a lot of what's going on in Viki's life right now and how she's dealing with it. When Frank said, "We're writing a show for you," I was so touched I started to cry. It's so sweet. But I was kind of hoping it would all go by unnoticed.

TV Guide Magazine: Seriously? How could your 40th go ignored?

Slezak: I came to this show without a fuss — I crept in rather quietly — and when I leave I want to go out that way, too. I don't like fuss. It's a little embarrassing. But I think it's just so darling that they want to do this special show for me, and I am deeply honored. I only have one concern.

TV Guide Magazine: What would that be?
Slezak: That I do it justice.

Interview with Chad Duell and Soap Opera Digest!

In the wake of the car-bombing, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Michael is eager to indulge his lifelong dream of joining the mob and helping his father take revenge on the Balkan.

"Michael really wants to help a lot," enthuses his portrayer Chad Duell. "He wants to try to solve this thing."

But does he really understand what it means to head up a criminal organization — the unglamorous dark side of violence and death — or does he have a more romantic idea of gangsters in mind?

"He just wants to be involved; he wants to do something that makes him feel like he has a purpose," Duell explains. "He feels like he's good at it. What it entails? He doesn't necessarily think about that as much as he just wants to be a part of the business, because he feels like he can do well and be comfortable."

It would also help Michael "feel like he has some choice in his life. He feels like everyone else in his life has choices," Duell notes. "He wants something for his own in life, so he can feel that he has some power and control of his own life. He would be working with people that he knows, and his family — Jason and Sonny. He feels like he'd fit in."

Duell notes that Michael has a sense of the sacrifice such a career would require, thanks to a talk with Jason.

"Jason had to sacrifice a lot," Duell observes. "Jason talks about how he couldn't have kids; he had to give up Jake. And Michael has suffered a lot. There's a lot of weight and trouble that comes along with this business. Jason is trying to give him a warning, that people in his life, like Abby, could be affected by this. He's talking from experience. Carly is talking about what would be best for Michael, but Jason talks about being in the business; what it will do to his life. Michael is really getting the lowdown."

But does any of that change his mind? Says Duell: "Michael still wants to do it."

This sounds like the episode where Cole was high on drugs and was being aggressive w/Starr to do it w/him. The next day he felt super sorry about it and says he did not know what he was doing. That is why he says he should have known that no means no, its because of his mother who got raped.

[> Update on Brian Kerwin OLTL... -- Ravenbeauty, 17:29:02 03/11/11 Fri [1]

Hey Gang,

Because my next column is not due out until next weekend, I wanted to revisit what I told you in my 12/27/10 column!

Clint is forced to take inventory when it comes to his life. Echo has not even begun to do real damage yet (give her time). A very unlikely old time couple may return to each other’s arms once again courtesy of Echo (she may leave town with someone that will make people very angry). Let us hope the writers have a change of heart.

Obviously, the walls are now coming down around Clint with so much exposed. He is had to face what he has truly become. The plan was to have Charlie and Echo leave town together once their arcs were complete. In their place, a long awaited reunion would take place hence "a very unlikely old time couple may return to each other’s arms again courtesy of Echo."

I was told that they had two ideas for Clint, with one being rather radical (with someone very young and reminiscent of Kimmie in his orbit). The other is what I wrote above from my December column. Now that the announcement has been made in regards to Brian Kerwin, I am inclined to believe they are going with that first scenario full speed ahead (of course, it's rather hard to keep up with any changes that may have been made since my column hit in December). I do not know if they will have Echo stay on a bit longer, or if the original plan has been given the green light. I guess we will know soon enough.

I have made this clear over at Facebook, and wanted to reiterate it here as well. That blind item about the unhappy actor was 100% NOT about Brian Kerwin. Brian Kerwin has been quite the trouper actually. He is also very well thought of by everyone. Just wanted to clarify. I hope everybody has a wonderful weekend!
