Subject: To Braid or Not To Braid

Hi all:

Well, we've hit the 6 month mark together and I am loving every minute of the time spent with my 5 year old gelding. No more hoof problems (the barefoot trim finally worked along with the Hoof Power supplement - highly recommended), we moved barns for more turnout/exercise and there has been such a difference with him. It is unbelievable. He is much calmer now since the gelding and no more spooking as he has been outside alot lately.

Now we are starting to learn dressage together. It is a great feeling! My crooked eared friend :)

The weather is starting to get really beautiful here in Europe but I really believe we are going to be in for a hot summer.

Therefore, let me know what you think about the braiding issue. I have heard DON'T risk it because if he rubs and a chunk comes out, that is it.

Any ideas? I would like for him to be as comfortable as possible but his mane is not that long so maybe I shoudld just leave it alone. It sort of tapers half way down his neck and we had a blanket issue as most horses do during the winter. Lots of rubbing off near the withers but now less to braid. There was even some loss of hair on his tail but it is growing back quickly and looks very interesting. :)

I have seen a few websites re: braiding and one of them puts those bandage/baggy looking things on them. I also do not want to cause crest issues.

Thanks!

Cathy
