Subject: What type of bit for trail riding

Hi, I own a 4 yr. old gelding whom I have just started to bit. I bought him a KK ultra full cheek. He is doing beautifully! Prior, I had been just riding in a bosal and he responds on a dime. Recently I had thought about taking him to a trainer for 30 days to put some miles on him, well he informed me that he would NOT use my bit and instead would use a "wonder bit". This is a regular snaffle quite thin and he has it on the last ring for a pretty good amount of leverage. He informed me I would need more control on the trail??? What the heck is that supposed to mean! I want my horses mouth to stay soft! At any rate, I was just curious what the other Friesian people use.........On any horse I have ever owned, I have never had to use anything more than a snaffle (mine is a double joint).
I would appreciate any and all opinions.

Sincerely,

Jennifer
