Subject: BB2 to A Book Breeding plans - Why do that?
In reply to: Megan 's message, "Stallion selection" on 11:45:36 09/10/10 Fri

Maybe I’m incorrect but I thought that BB2 horses get promoted into the A Book only after their parentage has 5 generations of approved stallions. (Maybe that was for BB1).??? I couldn’t easily find the info under FHANA to refresh my memory but believe me I tried to find it before composing this response. I apologize if I am proliferating bad data but I thought this topic was import to discuss. I’m sure that someone more knowledgeable will remark and correct if needed. In any case….

There was mention of "possibly" using the future offspring from your BB2 mare as a broodmare and eventually breed back into the A Book. I think that is possible but it would take at least 5 generations as I mentioned earlier. Then consider at least another 3 generations for the mother-line to show Ster. So the best case scenario is at least 7 years for your goals to become reality. Lots of money invested to get there not to mention questional impact on the Friesian horse.

Why would you consider using your BB2 mare as "the foundation mare" in your breeding program? I am sure you love your mare and she is lovely and all that ...but if ultimately you want to seriously breed and make an impact on the Friesian horse reconsider the plan.
