That is a wonderful story Kendra. Though it is scary to think of the situations our horses can end up in..

I would say you should not exclude trying her for studbook. If you think she has had some developmental problems, she may get a Studbook, no premie, but being in the Studbook versus the Foalbook is a better situation for her as a breeding mare.

I am not positive, I'll have to check, but I think that any foals she would have before entering the Studbook would have their papers updated if she got into the Studbook at a later date. In other words, I don't think she would have a negative impact on her offspring if she became Studbook at a later date. I'll have to check on that though..

What you choose to do first depends on your resources and priorities. Six is a good enough age, so that she should be in nice physical condition and has plenty of breeding years ahead of her. To be serious about trying her for Studbook, she will need some conditioning to get her in the best physical contition that you can manage, and show her to her best.

Also a consideration, you can choose to take her for Studbook while she is pregnant..the two are not necissarily mutally exclusive, so that is an option, though not necessarily the ideal for her chances at getting a great premie.
