Subject: Eye Problems

Oh, I am so heartbroke. I have had the most awful week. Apollo turned 7 on the 19th. I have been so excited about his maturing and maybe he will finally settle down and let me ride him in the arena and we could finally do some dressage. And, then . . .
His eye looked so scary. I was in a panic! Just suddenly it was cloudy, swollen, discharge, reddish. I didn't have the truck (my husband borrowed it) and I called all around trying desparately to find a vet to come to the barn. I was finally able to get him to a vet that day, late in the evening. Well, it was so traumatic that I was shaking all day and cried and cried and cried and forgot to eat. Turns out he has uveitis or moonblindness. I am seeing an equine eye specialist tomorrow so I will know more. But, so far everything I read says he'll be blind. Eventually. He is already so spooky he's a challenge to ride. If he can't see what will happen?
Someone at the barn tonight said, "Well, aren't friesians known to get moondblindness?" I hadn't heard that one. I guess I'm venting, but what I want to know, is has anyone else dealt with this? Are friesians truly prone to moonblindness?
Thanks for any input.
