There's no link, it seems completely random. The owner of the barn says it must be the hay (from what everyone can tell, she's not interested in seriously looking into the problem), but they're not all given the same hay. A couple people have had the hives biopsied, but no one has been able to pinpoint the exact cause. I try not to overthink these things, but this seems a little sketchy to me.
