I am having a skin problem with Liu which is either hives or some infestation... I wonder if anyone has ever had this problem-- on a Friesian or other. At first it seemed like sap... hair stuck together and hard, and patches of skin that was hard under the hair. Water does nothing to alleviate the stickiness... I tried to treat it as sap, with oil to remove the sticky stuff, and not only did that not work, but it seems that hair is coming off in patches, and my horse is sensitive when I touch those spots. I don't believe it is scratches, as it has not originated from the feet, nor does it follow a lymphatic path. It is randomly spread out, on his cheek, shoulder, croup, and a lot along the top of the neck where the mane originates.

I am having the vet come this week to help, and I will go check out the geldings he pastures with at night. This seems to have started when I switched his turnout schedule from daytime out and nighttime in to daytime in and nighttime out. He had no shade or shelter in the 100 degree California heat and was turning brown... But he is with the same geldings as he was before. Of course, since I just bought him in late May, and he just arrived from the Netherlands mid-May, everything in his life has JUST CHANGED!

Any help or advice will be appreciated! Muriel
