Muriel - I have not had any trouble with my 2-year-old's feet until the last month or so. He is on a biotin supplement, but still his hooves have started to chip pretty significantly. I think it is just because the weather has been so dry here this summer, with virtually no rain. I hose him off once or twice a week, but I think standing in dry shavings, dry sand, and dry soil just continues to pull all the moisture out of the hooves. It would be nice to soak his feet in water, if you can find a way to do that he will put up with, and then experiment with regular applications of a hoof dressing to try to keep moisture in. Are his hooves really hard? My boy's hooves are like concrete right now and that ain't right. I'm trying to learn now about good brands of hoof dressing, so if anyone has a favorite brand, please let us all know about it.
