Usually they are mostly 3 and 4 year olds, but sometimes you get older horses, I think probably especially at smaller keurs, or keurs that are held farther apart, and to which people may not be able to attend every year. The thing to remember though, is that this is not a competition. Your horse is being judged individually for his faults and strengths. It is probable that in the Championship the older, more developed horses could do better than him, especially if he is at a gawky stage..but you really never know. Although I must say from your photos of him, he is not nearly as gawky as he could be! I've seen 3 year olds that look like yearlings!

Anyway, no matter what he receives at the keur, if in a year or two you think he is really looking at his best and has a shot at a better rating, you can always take him back to be re-evaluated for Star.
