Subject: Friesians as Trail Horses

I have a question about Friesians as trail horses. My husband would like to get back into horsebackriding, and get his own horse so we can go on trail rides together. He loves the temperament, look and feel of Friesians... but we've been warned that aside from having uncomfortable gaits (IMHO, that is purely up to the individual horse), they have no endurance. Can anyone give me some feedback about their endurance for trails? We're not expecting to do any 'endurance' of any kind, but can one take one's Friesian out for a whole day of riding (walking mostly, small amount of trotting or cantering)? We live in California where the summer temps can be really hot... I would love to hear from people who take their horses out for long rides or ride where it is hot. Thanks for any feedback, Muriel
