Hey, everybody is talking about the lady who was crowned miss Universe, what about the lady who almost got the crown? What about the 1st runner-up? Here are my views.
Venezuela 2000: Better and more deserving than other venezuelan delegates who placed in the top 5 or more, but still nowhere near the actual winner.
Greece 2001: A true diva and with the best body in MU history, IMO. She was my personal favorite, even though PR did a great job that night. I still think that Greece would have promoted a healthier and more natural image than PR, who was your typical latin beauty (overrehearsed and not very natural, plus with the crowd cheering 4 her), and I would love to see a beauty like Evelina capturing the crown. Denise was a great choice of course, but we all have our favorites!
Panama 2002: Cute, but Russia was a goddess, one of the best faces and bodies pageantry has ever seen. In an overall weak year, Panama was a deserving 1st runner-up, but in no way equal to the winner.
Venezuela 2003: None of the top 2 was my favorite, but clearly DR was better than Venezuela, who seemed more natural and down-to-earth than other venezuelan delegates, but I will never understand how she became 2nd.
USA 2004: A classical american beauty, who would make a great MU, but Australia was unbeatable that night.
PR 2005: No, no and NO! Among the unnatural, fake, arrogant and overrehearsed latin delegates we have seen all over the years, she was by far the worst. I didn't like her at all, I hope I'm not starting the 3rd World War here!
Japan 2006: I liked the actual winner, but I adored this one! We have a repetition of 2001, where the most elegant, natural, down-to-earth and stunning delegate was beaten by the robotic and overrehearsed latin beauty. Yes, PR was lovely that night (even though she became awful during her reign), but Japan was the epitome of class and beauty.
Brazil 2007: Even though Japan was not my favorite (I was cheering for Korea), she still was miles ahead from Brazil, who looked like she was 40! A big NO once more.
Colombia 2008: How did she get 2nd place? The winner was absolutely fantastic and we are talking about a very well-deserved victory from Venezuela. But I could see at least 20 girls placing over Colombia, whose placing is waaaaay beyond me.
DR 2009: Each and every single one of the delegates would be a more deserving MU than the actual winner. That said, DR was not my favorite but way more deserving than Venezuela.
Overall, my absolute favorite 1st runner-up would be either Greece 01 or Japan 06. They both have everything that a contemporary and healthy delegate should have. Both of them stunning, elegant, natural and with a great sense of fashion. What do you all think?

- Claudia Mareno!!! Lara was the voice of the year, but Claudia was the stunning beauty. Also, I give props to Claudia for being such a good replacement for Martina. How wonderful to think all your dreams were shattered, but then to end up representing your country at Universe anyway. I did not like Claudia when she competed in Miss Venezuela, but she made a wonderful transformation before she got to Miss Universe. The hair lightning was the most simple and effective trick ever. She will remain a personal favorite. Second place for me is Japan 2006. (NT) -- Carmex is my Crack Cocaine, 10:05:33 02/08/10 Mon
- Agree with you on everything, except 2005. Natalie was the fake, arrogant and robotic winner. Just awful imo. I loved PR, she was stunning and her 1 RU should have been Venezuela or Mexico. (NT) -- The best 1 RU overall is Japan 2006. She was perfect., 11:59:44 02/08/10 Mon
- OK...Like you..I don't want to start WW3; however, I agree with your comments except -- Zuly (yes, I loved Japan & her DG gown was fierce) clearly won the competition during the EG...her presentation was strong and her gown was amazing...loved her hair and make-up 2. I disagree that she was over rehearsed - rather, I believe she was spontaneous and fresh. In regards to the current MU -- I had an opportunity to meet her at the US Open and she is beautiful...flawless. Meeting her definitely changed my mind on the pageant's outcome.... - 2003- Miss Venezuela was my favorite that night, she looked incredible beautiful in that red gown that final night. (NT) -- BEAUTY-CRITIC, 12:53:52 02/08/10 Mon
- How dare any of you place anyone before the God Lara Dutta. But yes, I loved Claudia Moreno. My list includes Mariangel Ruiz from Venezuela, Greece the year Denise Quinonez won, and Dominican Republic this past year. Oh and lets not forget the most obvious of all SHANDI FINNESSEY who shouldve won :o) (NT) -- Mona Hibbard Miss Illinois, 12:57:00 02/08/10 Mon
- Claudia Moreno made it that far because that was a weak year and "there's always Venezuela". She had a awesome body, but her interview skills were terrible. Evelina was, for me, plain ugly, mostly when she opened her mouth. Justine Pasek made it to 1st runner up b/c the pageant in '03 was in Panama, otherwise she wouldn't have made it to the top 20. Vzla 2003 didn't deserve to be even in top 5, I would've placed Serbia/Mont as 1st R-up. Shandi was kinda pageant patty, but loved her. Cynthia was just gorgeous, she lost b/c of her terrible answer. Kurara made it that far b/c of the crowd, she was a mess, I would've placed Switz; Brazil or Vzla 2007 hands down over Riyo. 2008, Colombia should've won; 2009 Any of the top 4 deserved it more than Stef. - 2000: Claudio Moreno was a goddess. I don't care how eloquent Lara was that night. Claudia was leading going into the Top 5 interviews, which says something. 2003: Mariangel was horrible looking during the weeks leading up to the pageant. Her prelim styling was dreadful. Just when I lost all hope, she gets one hell of a weave and she looks FABULOUS during the live telecast. Based on final night performance, I would have given the title to her. 2005: Cynthia Olavarria is by far more photogenic and teleganic than Glebova. PR's swimsuit presentation is my all time favorite. Best Miss PR ever in my opinion. (NT) -- Estée Lauder, 16:22:47 02/08/10 Mon
- I think every winner this decade was the right choice over her 1ST RUNNER UP. Not necessarily the right choice, but the right choice of the LAST TWO STANDING. And although I loved Ada, Stefania is a much hipper MU than Ada's matronly ass would've been. (See recent pictures.) The only girl who I'd say COULD'VE taken the crown was Kurara Chibana, and in any other year she probably would have won, but Zuly was on fire that evening and the 700 pound gown of chains that made her pass out after she was crowned, was one of the most innovative and hottest gowns in recent memory. - Cinthia Olavarria should have won!!! (NT) -- Love her!, 18:36:11 02/08/10 Mon

- You like zuleyka but not cynthia? zuleyka was like a clone of cynthia who was a clone of denise lol. but i totally agree with u on brazil 07, for me the only choice was USA and KOREA but when both were eliminated, even though japan was nowhere in my list at all, she immediately became my pick. I hated Venezuela and Brazil that year, not personally of course, lol. (NT) -- la femme rouge, 19:14:55 02/08/10 Mon
- Greece 2001....without a doubt. (NT) -- Best figure ever., 13:44:51 02/09/10 Tue
