Was there a National Costume part of the contest in 2006 and 2007?

If so, can any one share with me pictures of Tara's and Rachel's costumes?

These propbably won win Crystle the Natl Cos Award (if they still have that) but they are so identifiably American that it would take a total brain transplant not to associate them with the USA.

Hello? lol Crystle wld look so cute in this skirt, hair in ponytail (with bangs) bobby socks, twinset sweater.

This one is totally American plus it's galactic. It is Miss Universe afterall. (minus the gun though lol)

And this classic...(she can switch the cigarette with a croissant or sunglasses)

One of the things that I enjoy is seeing the same gown on different contestants, so my new post is about that. Here are some recent ones.

There is always the myth that the homestate/country representative always makes the cut. But in reality, there were many girls who competed on home soil and were excluded from the semis. Which home representatives did you feel deserved their placement, and which ones did you feel did not (regardless if the made the cut or not)?

MISS UNIVERSE:
-2007(MEXICO) - I thought Rosa Marie Ojeda did not deserve to be in the semis. Nothing special about her and she just looked dumpy to me

-2006(USA) - I thought Tara deserved to be in the semis

-2005(THAILAND)- Didn't make the cut that year. I thought she was going to, but after watching the prelims video her presentation was pretty flat and I understand why she didn't make it.

-2004(ECUADOR) - Susanna had the right moves, but I didn't find her facially attractive. Her mouth bothered me

-2003(PANAMA) - Pretty girl but nothing special about her

-2002(PUERTO RICO) - she missed the cut and I think it was because of her swimsuit presentation. The hairdo and the walk was just too much (Almost like Miss Mexico 1993 and her horrible over the top gown). 2002 was the year where many odds were defied. Many favorites (Dominican Rep, Colombia, Ghana, Jamaica), the homegirl, and even Miss USA missed the cut. I really thought the Puerto Rican crowd was going to riot, but they showed their class by keeping their cool. Unlike another Latin nation that starts with an "M"

-2001(PUERTO RICO) - From the moment I saw Denise, I thought she was a contender for the crown. Some find her victory questionable, but I think she would've won regardless where it was held.

-2000(CYPRUS) - She didn't make the cut and to be honest I can't even remember how she looked like. I don't even think she made anyone's lists that year

MISS USA:
-2008(NEVADA)- I was so-so about Veronica and wasn't surprised she wasn't included in the 15

-2007(CALIFORNIA) - Megan deserved to make the cut, even though I felt she shouldn't have been in the 5. She did break the California host curse for a MUO pageant (Before that California always missed the cut, every time the USA or Teen pageant was held there, with the exception of the Long Beach days of the 50's and 60's)

-2006(MARYLAND) - Didn't make the cut and like Cyprus 2000 can't even remember who she was

-2005(MARYLAND) - I knew Marina was going to be there, but I wasn't impressed by her USA presentation. Loved her at America though

-2004(CALIFORNIA) - Wasn't surprised she missed the cut. She was a WTF rep for my homestate of California.

-2003(TEXAS) - Wasn't surprised the Nicole made the cut. She has a fierceness to her

-2002(INDIANA) - I thought she deserved to be in the top 12 and top 5 that year

-2001(INDIANA) - Can't even remember who the homegirl was and that's probably why she wasn't in the top 10

-2000(MISSOURI) - Another year where the local missed the cut. I thought Denette Roderick was a pretty lady, but 2000 was just a strange year with the girls looking like the just came out of the shower. I still think Sallie Touissant was a victim of the whole redefined theme that year.

As a "warm up" to Miss Universe 2008 to take place in two months, here's a should've/could've/would've post:

If you had been a judge at Miss Universe 1987, how would you have ranked the actual Top 5?

And, if you could have taken ONE of the Top 5 and replaced that person with one of the Top 10 who didn't make Top 5, which one would you choose.

Here are the actual Top 10:

Italy, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Philippines, Peru, USA, Singapore, Sweden, Turks & Caicos, Chile.

Here are the actual Top 5:

4th RU --- Puerto Rico (Laurie Simpson)
3rd RU --- Venezuela (Inez Maria Calero)
2nd RU --- USA (Michelle Royer)
1st RU --- Italy (Roberta Capua)
MU 1987 -- Chile (Cecilia Bolocco)

Our Rankings:

4th RU --- Venezuela
3rd RU --- Puerto Rico
2nd RU --- USA
1st RU --- Chile
MU 1987 -- ITALY.....love you still, Roberta!!

OUR TOP 5 SUBSTITUTION:

Get rid of Venezuela and her "Good-witch-from-the-East evening gown" and instead, place the beautiful Geraldine, Miss Philippines!!!

We all know that Wikipedia is notoriously inaccurate in their lists, but now state Miss Sweden will not participate again. Universe is not in their ideal...so is this true? If so MUO needs a new franchise owner...this guy was invited to attend MU 2 years ago and see what it was like then decided this? I think they should have a franchise owner who does this right!

We had a board crash earlier today and a Message Rebuild was not working, as well as the Force Message Rotation, when we went to use the Backup Message Database to restore the settings and the messages to see if that would work, all of a sudden our backup was lost.

We appologize for this inconvenience and hope that our pageant family can rebuild USB back filled with fun and informative posts.

Every year at every pageant there are the "untouchables." Usually a group of about 7 heavy favorites (aka contenders) who have a huge fan-base that have been supporting them since the moment their name made it on the pageants roster. They have been hailed as anything from perfection, to Miss Universe...the second coming. *Every* year in every pageant there is also at least one of those seven media darlings who fails to even crack the semifinals. This fascinating oddity seems to usually occur in the Miss Universe pageant.
Here is a list of favorites who failed to make semi's in their respective year (@ Miss Universe)
2001: Lesley Turner- Miss Ireland

2002: Ruth Ocumarez- Miss Dominican Republic

2003: Eva Fernandez- Miss Spain

2004: Oleksandra Nikolayenko- Miss Ukraine

2005: Shermain Jeremy- Miss Antgiua & Barbuda

2006: Erin Mcnaught- Miss Australia

2007: Doukissa Nomikou- Miss Greece

1.) Which one of these competitors did you just not get, and were not the least bit surprised over their omission?
2.) Which one of these competitors did you get and felt were truly overlooked for more sub-par semifinalists?
(If it applies)
3.) Who would you have taken out in their favor?

Of all the Teen USA contestants that went on to represent their state at Miss USA, who do you feel was "on the mark" at both pageants. (Perfect teen, transformed into a perfect miss.)

For me, it would be a close call between Holly Roehl (GA Teen, Indiana Miss) and Tara Connor (KY Teen/Miss), but my vote would go to TARA CONNOR because I believe she was cute and spunky as a teen, yet sophisticated & sexy as a miss. Although I find Holly to have been the most beautiful during each of her years, I can look back & see that although she was PERFECT and should have won Teen, she was NOT the cute kid they were looking for. Of course, those judges had no clue about beauty...or was it Sandy Duncan that read the results backwards?? lol!!!

I am dating myself again, but which delegate that didn't make the finals in 1984 would you switch with a finalist? I have 3.

Finalists
4th runner up, Miss Colombia
3rd runner up, Miss Philippines
2nd runner up, Miss Venezuela
1st runner up, Miss South Africa
WINNER, Miss Sweden

My Finalist would've been
4th runner up, Miss Germany
3rd runner up Miss Sweden
2nd runner up Miss Guatamala
1st runner up Miss Holland
Winner- Miss Venezuela. I know she was stuck up, but what a face!

I remember when we did this for Punky a few months back but now I am looking for some help and I thought maybe the USBer's would help!

I am expecting my first little one July 11th and we have decided not to find out if it will be a boy or girl. So with Mother's Day around the corner let's dicuss the following:

1. Names! Best for a boy or a girl. OR the worst/weirdest for both.

2. What is the one item you absolutely could not live without when you first had kids?

3. The best advice you have for a new mamma!

I'm excited to hear what ya'll have to say!

** Paula's mother was born and raised in India
** She lost both parents to cancer. Hearing Lynette Cole speak on breast cancer awareness in 2000 prompted her to get screened. She found out she had DCIS which is an aggressive pre-cancerous condition. But because she screened early, she is now cancer-free. GIRLS REMEMBER: EARLY DETECTION!!!!
** She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ohio University with a BS in Television Production and Interpersonal Communications
** Kevin Bright (Exec Producer of "Friends") gave her her first break
** Worked on Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour & Rolling Stones' Steel Wheels Tour
