I wish I had kinder things to say about the pageant, but I don't. I thought the pageant was filled with wonderful ideas that were poorly executed.
The Host: Just goes to show that when you hire someone who hosts a "recorded show" where one can do retake after retake till it looks flawless, doesn't mean they can pull off a live hosting gig. He was awful! IF this were a non televised pageant, he would have been perfect, but this was a live telecast and just brought the over all look of a top notch production down a few notches. I would have gladly busted out my box or Ritz crackers and suffered my lactose intolerance by having Christine Friedel's over dose of cheese over this dude any day!
The stage: The stage was AWESOME! Reminded me of a Miss Universe stage, however it was toooo small for all those girls! I mean to think someone paid thousands of dollars to be on that stage and not even be seen, because of the crammed situation! Plus, how sad that those girls didn't even get an introduction! I mean Miss Universe manages to get all their girls introduced in a timely manner, hell even TEXAS with all their girls still give their girls their props and camera time to at the very least introduce themselves. Hopefully, they can work on that for next year.
Contestants: Over all they had a really good batch of girls. For the amount of girls they had there were plenty of gorgeous girls! There were like 20 beauties for every 3 that weren't so hot! They definitely had Texas beat in that department, Texas has numbers but I have to say that with those number sin Texas also brings a big amount of WTF'ness to it! What drove me nuts about the girls last night is who the hell taught them how to walk??? Some walked liek they had never been in heels, some walked like they had sparked up a doobie right before! Just weird!
The Music: I thought it was great that Tony Moran was there as the official DJ because I LOOOOVE him, but I'm sorry, I think I have just about EVERY song he played on my IPOD! I could have done that shit for free! LOL! Nothing special. Looked good having him there though, brought some cred. to the show!
GOWNS (top ten): UGH! Don't even get me started on the hideousy of those gowns! Never in my life have I witnessed the most ill fitting gowns all in a span of a few minutes! Who cares that a designer donated those gowns, they looked horrible. It was a lose/lose situation all the way around. The girls lost out because they were in gowns that they probably never would have selected, and then to top it off they were all so ill fitting. Except for Miss Wu's of course. How can ANYONE feel confident in a gown that makes your tits look like they are about to eclipse your navel? Another poster said that it just shows who has confidence because models have to wear stuff they would probably never wear, but the difference is...MODELS get paid to wear horrible stuff. Models don't pay thousands of dollars to win a title! Models have nothing to lose, these girls put time and money into this pageant only to have all that hard work possibly be ruined because of some hideous dress forced upon you.
FROM TONY BOWL'S POINT OF VIEW: It was a losing situation because I would have been mortified if I had seen some of my gowns go down a runway looking as ill fitted as those gowns! This was on live television and a global webcast, those gowns are his calling card and as a consumer it would have made me think twice about buying one once I saw them coming down looking like that!
I thought the gown idea was innovative idea, but the most poorly executed idea of the night! It most definitely needs the most tweeking!
PRODUCTION: I thought was sub par! Clearly this pageant wa snot ready to be televised in any way shape or form! Shows like this should be seamless with very few hick ups, but it seemed like one production hick up after another. Especially during the cut aways to the back stage banter! It was just painful to watch! I did love that Shana was quick on her feet and got the train back on track every time! I will admit, I have always been one to Dog Miss Texas USA in the past for having some down right Hokey moments, but I gotta tell ya, those gay singing cadets looked pretty darn good last night! I guess that's why Miss Texas USA has won several Emmy's for their productions! Hopefully they will be back!
Over all the show has a lot of future promise. I did enjoy the pageant and loved that it never felt old. It was very modern and hip and that is the direction it needs to keep going! I think a lot of lessons were learned last night and hopefully, next year's will be better! I LOVED their winner and expect her to be top 5 at Miss USA! She is gorgeous!
