Subject: Hello everyone! Wow, I have had a whirlwind 40+ hour weekend. Just returned to Atlanta after a quick run to Charleston for the Miss SC USA pageant. I was blessed that a friend of mine, who lives in Summerville, SC, called me up early Friday and told me she had secured tickets to Miss SC USA and asked if I wanted to come. I attended my last SC USA pageant in 2007, so it seemed like a long time ago, therefore I accepted the offer. |

Way too tired to go into alot and also did not get a program book, so I am lost for some of the delegate names, but here are my thoughts:
I drove to SC hoping to see Bradshaw or Witt for Teen and Bishop, Law, or Spears for the Miss winners. With that said,...
I enjoyed presentation night and the highlight of the evening was seeing Dana R, emcee, dressed in a full length Arab shiek outfit, throughout the entire night.
Stephanie Smith and Mary Helen Carver were interesting as they described their past year and future plans. Stephanie has moved to Miami, is engaged, and shares a new doggie with her fiance'. She will soon go to Maine to support her best friend, the outgoing Miss Maine. She also keeps in touch with former Miss TX, Brooke Daniel. Stephanie loves her new job and loves Miami. Mary Helen is attending USC Aiken and is delighted with her new officer role in her sorority. She also has a boyfriend, who is a ball player at their college, and she spends most of her time studying.
NC Teen is smart as a whip and the Miss has potential. The Miss works for American Express, but has not yet returned to work. LA teen is cute and the Miss is a hoot, especially when describing her family.
The stage was simple, low steps, and Egyption styled. The Egyption men, four of them, were all hotties and were nice eye candy as they helped each delegate manuever the stairs.
All male judges and the Prince was sort of stuck on himself, but was a delight to watch as he worked the audience in a frenzy tonight (Sat).
If I had to count, I would bet that 2/3 of the teens wore white. Standouts to me were Pinkney, Bradshaw, MACarter, and Witt. Pinkney is a Charleston prelim titleholder and my hats off to Laura Mills and Team Charleston for their first winner, although they claimed Stephanie Smith first (when Steph won last year, she was not a prelim winner, but a former Team Charleston teen and miss winner in the past). Pinkney, I understand is a USC dancer or cheerleader, so she is very comfortable in front of a large audience. She is very graceful too. Margaret Ann Carter attempted to own presentation night and Dana really emphasized her name, each time he called her out, but imho, she is way too sexy to be in a teen pageant. Many more caught my eye, but I did not know them, nor have a program book to go by, now, so I can't name them. There were many, many BEAUTIFUL teens and SC USA has a great future.
There were many gorgeous Miss delegates. During presentation I was impressed by Bishop's swimsuit performance, although Bishop seemed too skinny, and Stephanie Vaughn, although short. For those who were still saying, up until recently, that Spears' weight would be an issue, I must disagree. She looked awesome in a red swimsuit and was indeed on during presentation. She is back! Eaves, Law, Hickman, McLeod, L.Smith, J.Price and B.Price were equally impressive. Groome had a rocking body, but seemed to take tentative, baby steps. She was awkward, but with some modeling lessons, could improve that walk in time for next year. Jasensky (sp?) was cute, but seems very short. Capps' body was great, but her hair fell akwardly on her and when she profiled the audience during her walk, she appeared somewhat slumped due to her hair. I understand Capps is great in interview, but I can't get past ger height either. Collard is still super skinny, but has totally improved her stage performance and like in past prelims, she won Miss Congeniality. I understand she is a great gal to be around.
Evening gown for teen was interesting, but Witt (baby blue gown) and Pickney (white)were the standouts. Honorable mentions to Hilary Bradshaw. I didn't much like the bottom portion of her gown, but I loved the sequined bodice. The one she wore last year was awesome. Margaret Ann Carter had on a pretty white gown, but it still, although very teen, did not accomplish the job of making MAC look teen. She is so curvy and the gown emphasized it all. There was a cute teen from Sumter, named ? Grace, was precious in a pink mermaid gown and her short haircut was sassy and a beautiful blonde. If she comes back next year, she could do well. Sears was cute and should come back as well as R.Pike. Two teens were added at the last minute and one of them placed in the top 5 last night. Many teens and parents seemed very upset by the late edition.
And,....the Misses in gown; OMG, there were so many pretty ones. Alot of black and alot of shiny, sequiny, gowns, both gold and silver. J.Price's gown, however beautiful, blinded me as the lights shone on it. Wish I had had my sunglasses with me. Bishop's gown was nice, but had a boa hemline, and seemed to do a great job dusting the stage. Someone else had one with a boa hemline. I think it was L.Smith, but not 100% certain. Speaking of L.Smith, she looked nice and walked better in gown than I have ever seen her. I loved her program book pics (yes, I did get to look through one). If judging was dependent on legs, alone, L.Hickman(black), R.McLeod (gorgeous purple), and (name???) looked the most colorful in a nice yellow gown. All 3 of these delegates' gowns must have provided the male judges with some hot, risque' views. B.Price wore a white lace gown (looked like a former gown worn by a Miss America),with long sleeves. At first I thought she was wearing long gloves. On Friday, she tripped and could have easily fallen and hurt herself. She recovered quickly and nicely. I can't remember details of Eaves' gown, but she had a nice presentation and is much more beautiful than her "deer in the headlight" photo. Groome wore a gown with cutouts. It was dark, but not sure of the color. Her modeling was better. In the elegance department, Law and Spears, were it! Both of these delegates wore classic style gowns, no slit and not alot of bling---Law in black (looked like velvet) with gorgeous rhinestones and Spears in a unique gown with liquid gold beading. Law's hair was flawless and Spears' hair had tons of volume. Both pleased me, since they were my picks to win. I favor a classic, old Hollywood style gown, which oozes elegance over a gown slit up to the ying ying. These two epitomized that.
During finals, I found the show more lively and Dana only wore the Arab headdress. Opening # was outstanding. My two favorite opening # outfits belonged to Witt in teen and R.McLeod in Miss. Many of the men sitting around my friend and I were oogling over some of the belly dancers that came out during the beginning of opening #.
A wonderful tribute to Paula Miles was presented, including a pretaped message to Paula from Paula Shugart. Paula's sister, Janice McDonald, Miss SC USA 1979 came out in evening gown and crown, and provided a moving and teary eyed tribute. She went into the history of how Paula secured the SC USA franchise and emphasized that the entire McDonald/Miles family not only helped her prepare for Miss USA but continue to help countless women, even today and after 30 years. Janice's story of how Paula took her first Miss SC USA, Shawn Weatherly, all the way to the Miss Universe title was a nice reminder of Paula's beginnings. On screen all the former Miss and Teen winners were being displayed during all this. Some of the returning titleholders, including some from NC USA, were a wonderful audience treat. I can't remember them all, but here are the one's that I do remember. Chelsea Cooley, Anna Hanks (very pregnant), Elizabeth Cartey, Austin Brown, Stephanie ? (2002 Teen USA), Lauren Taylor, and Brittany Smith are some of the formers, who I recall.
I was pleased with both the top 15 for Miss and Teen, but I am too tired to describe most of what went on last night. From the very beginning, it appeared that Pinkney and Law were the clear standouts. I was disappointed that Witt didn't win Teen, but as the evening wore on, I knew Pinkney was going to own it. I am very happy for the teen winner and feel she will do well at Miss Teen USA. I was disappointed that Spears didn't advance further. She just reminded me of a Princess Grace. If you could put sleeves on Spears' gold gown, it would have somewhat come close to resembling the gown Shawn W. wore at Universe. I couldn't be more proud of Spears, primarly because she put so much effort into her comeback. She shouldn't be disappointed at all and gets an A+ for effort. Many had written her off and if the rumors of an impending marriage are false, then I hope she will try one more time.
Once Spears had been eliminated, although I still thought Bishop would deliver a top 5, I chose to support Law. Law was flawless and again, so eloquent and graceful. She was definitely a crowd favorite. Some of those with the slits in the gown, up to their ying ying, did not advance. Seemed to me that the judges were looking more for glamour and eloquence, rather than flashy and sexy. I was not surprised by the top 5, except for Roberson (who, btw is a cutie and was focused). I knew Law would win and was pretty sure Bishop would be first. I couldn't get past the fact that Bishop's past internet pics might hold her back and one thing is for certain, I/we will never know. Law made me very, very happy and will do SC proud. I have watched her grow up and she maintains that fresh faced look and cool demenor (sp?) that has taken her so far in the past. It was stated that Law's hobbies include international travel and jewelry making. I found myself wondering where and why was Law such an international traveler. I suppose I will never know, but I do know that Law is heading for Vegas and I know she will do well.
I saw no drama regarding the CC/G&C fiasco and I did not learn of any drama either. I saw Cy Frakes, King of the Crowns show on TLC, and he has become quite the celebrity. Everyone wanted a piece of him, especially the very young visiting queens titleholders. I also saw Shane, to me, a standout on KOTC. His face is just too pretty. He looked very handsome all decked out in a nice suit of some sorts.
Although very tired from my whirlwind weekend, I am so greatful to my friend, who invited me and purchased my tickets. I haven't been home long and I am craving a good night/day(???) LOL, of sleep. If I think of more later, I will post again. If not, I will post again later. Please forgive me if I do not spell check this. I hope this review gives you some insight into the success of 30 years of RPM, Inc. magic. To Paula and staff, a job done very, very well.
A quick shoutout to NCGal. I forgot your phone number when I left in haste Friday. Since I had given you mine, I was hoping you might call me, but then again, you were busy texting messages to TNBoy, so I know you were busy and had your work cut out for you. Also, SanFranGuy, I enjoyed providing you with some feedback Friday night. Glad your flight to see your family arrived safely Sat. night and thanks for keeping me company, as we talked while I drove home so dog gone late last night.
See you all later!

Another thing,....I copied this website from another SC post floating around on this board. You folks MUST visit to get more of an idea about Racheal. Trust me on this one, I have seen Racheal compete on local and state level and she always wins the locals and always placed at state. I've scratched my head and wondered why myself. She can beat the best of the best and I still wonder, how, but the answer is simple,...Racheal is simply elegant. Visit and decide: Click on www.joshnorrisphotography.com, click on gallery , Rachel is the first picture in Fashion and is in pictures 7, 8 & 9 in headshots, (NT) -- Dreamboat Annie, 10:41:15 11/22/09 Sun
