Now that autumn has arrived i have started in my usual way to feel all earthy and homey, then i start to think about silly things such as smells that comfort me, so i thought it would be interesting to find out what everyones favourite (natural) smells are!!!

Mine would have to be:

the smell of the earth and foliage after the rain and the way everything smells fresh!

hay at haymaking time

freshly mown grass

lemon verbena, this scent is gauranteed to lift my spirits!

these are just a few of mine so what are yours?

Love and light

Oh smells, i have a very squidgy tummy and hate smelling any thing bad,or dirty, especially dirty people, i just dry retch or have even been known to vomit.I dont do bad smells.

This has became worse as i got older, i put it down to pregnancies where i didnt have the usual food fads, for me it was smells.
Jays fluid was a particular with my daughter and my son a bar of soap which didnt leave my side.

I too love the smell of the earth after rain, all clean and refreshed.
Mown grass is heavenly, reminding me of summer time.
Fresly baked bread
fresh coffee
lavender one of my favorites.
fresh or dry or in incense sticks i love it.
I have a loose incense Whitewolf makes up that is divine.
Mint
apples

i love to walk in to Dad's greenhouse and smell the fresh tomato plants, when the cherry tomatoes are young they smell so sweet. (i may have to go pick one to eat in a minute!!)

Freshly mown grass, and the smells of the earth following a really hard thunder/rainstorm... i love to stand right out there in the middle of the storm and witness the gradual changes in the atmosphere.
(and wonder at the power of nature and it's beauty :) )

i love to smell cadburys chocolate, as i am not allowed to eat it i buy it for others and then make them let me have a sniff!!
(i still have my choccy candle WW gave me, it's in my bookcase, and whenever i open the door the scent just wafts out mmmmm)

fresh strawberries...........in strawberry jelly.

a freshly cleaned out hamster cage/rabbit/ginnea pig hutch smells wonderful to me.

cinnamon.............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

and natural liqurice (sp)
lovely.

oh now i've gone and made myself hungry!!

Oh Oh MARMITE!!!

Without sounding too weird, you guys have some great favourte smells, i cant believe i left cinnamon out, i love that smell and cherry toms from the greenhouse, my grandad always used to grow them when i was little, and my cousins and i would always sneak round there and eat as many as we could, he never really minded that much though, but half of the fun was 'not being seen on the way'!

And freshly baked bread i cant believe i left that out either, so many smells so little time!!!!

I like doing these lists - they're fun!!

Right let me think:

Freshly ground coffee, new mown grass, pine trees, freshly ironed sheets, especially if they have been dried outside, that lovely autumnal smell of wood smoke, all sorts of flowers - roses, jasmine, wallflowers, pansies, pinks, lavender (could go on forever there! lol), the smell of the sea, freshly baked bread, badedas bubble bath, horses - would never let my mum wash my jods as I loved the smell (sorry if I have put anyone of their food here, hee hee), marmite,
cinnamon and freshly baked ginger biscuits (my gran's
recipe).

Funny how many of us share the pleasure of similar smells. Don't think marmite counts, eh Ash? :D

Yes, most of my favourites have already been mentioned - horses, cinnamon and ginger, the fresh smell after rain, grass, the different smells of the seasons, marmite (lol) can't stand coffee though!! yuck!! good quality benzoin, and a wide range of flowers / herbs and oils of course :) oh there's just too many good smells about.... oooh and baked apples stuffed with raisins and nuts and sprinkled with sugar mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm now I'm hungry too!

i love to stand right out there in the middle of the storm oh me too!! we had a terrific little storm a couple of nights ago, really really bright lightning. Beautiful!

When we go on our walking or biking weekends we often come across wild garlic - I love it. I also love the smell of the sea.

I love the smell of fried onions, baking cakes and flap jack, a baby and freshly washed hair.
