Welcome to the Garden melanierose.

OK, now this is only my opinion, and is not meant to offend... but... imo if you 'think you are nearly enlightened' then I feel that you're missing the point... ?

On the subject of becoming a high priestess - may I ask why? is this central to your personal path / belief? (what do you expect to gain from being a high priestess and what would you say you would be offering others by being a high priestess? what role do you see a high priestess having?)

Just curious :)
Blessings

Hmmm..interesting post. How do you define 'enlightened' is one question that springs to mind.

I can only comment from my own view point but I would have thought if one were enlightened then one would see the position of high priestess or high anything else as totally irrelevent. One would have moved beyond such things and such basic world views and would see them for what they are.
Still, maybe I have much to learn yet?

Hi,

Sorry have to confess I don't really know what a high priestess is but cannot imagine there is a test for enlightenment involved. :)

On this subject there is a buddhist saying I like.....

before enlightenment, carry water, chop wood.
after enlightenment, carry water, chop wood.

Enlightenment is an idea, and an absolute. As such, I believe it is unattainable - a concept to which we strive in a process of self development.

Therefore anyone can become "more nearly enlightened". No-one, I believe, is ever "nearly enlightened", as there's always further to go. And anyone who claims to be "enlightened" awakes my suspicions.

I would counsel caution in your ambition, Melanierose.

Enlightenment, wow thats a hard one.
For me enlightened ones come along now and again.
But they are folk like Gandi, Mandela and JC.
For me the more i learn the less i know.
My only enlightenment is to be a good person, have a good heartand send out positive ripples.

As for the High priestess well i have never met one and dont know any, i do wonder though just is qualified to say, yes now you are a hig priestess.
We have lost so much of our ancint lore that we dont really have a scooby doo of a clue as to what our Pagan paths really mean.
If thats what you want and feel the time is right for you go for it, me i'll stay on my own doing my rituals or with a handful of hand picked special people to do rituals with.

lol sorry had to giggle.

I dont think I just am.

a priestess of what btw?

and personally id say (for me anyway) that priorities are rather muddled up, if you were enlightened, youd be incredibly experienced, and incredibly experiened in my opinion is realising that there is no need to be a priestess, of anything. whats a title got to do with the time of day or the hours in it.

I act as high priestess in rituals, i most certainly am farr off being enlightened however lol but im sure im doing it all in the right order, for me anyway.

i'll shurrup now, just my opinion mind and as we all know, opinion isnt universal.

good luck anyway
jade

zen i love that saying btw always makes me smile.

Enlightened? Hmmm.......I don't anyone who is truely enlightened, I mean if we were we would be Buddha or something.........

as for the other, I know several high priestesses, although I would not say that they were particularly enlightened any more than the rest of us. If you feel that you are ready, you can call yourself anything you want, however if you are in a coven they will advance you when they think you are "enlightened " enough and not before. They have certain procedures..........

Just my opinion...........

I really endorse the whole perspective of being counterindicative.
When someone says they are a master or enlightened or evil...it tends to just be whimsy and not the real deal, though judging what is the real deal is quite a tricky task by itself!?

Intresting subject, but the reason I found myself drawn to this garden was the humbleness and earthiness of it, it's a nice break from reading mass loads of non duality and nisargadatta. I agree that enlightenment is a concept and we are all connected anyway we just don't realise it, instead we are conditioned to belive we are seprerate from each other and the earth and this is why there's so much war etc.
But just seeing what is here each moment life is it all expressing as this or that, birds singing, reading words on a screen, war, birth, death, it's all life expressing life, it's just happening. Enlightenment is an idea in this matrix making us think that we don't have what is already so.

Hello

not been here for a while. am a friend of zenwinds. such a sweet gentle site i love it. lacking in all the arrogance and attitude of so many forums out there. the love is strong.

melanie rose...
it depends on what you mean by enlightened. in my path (a kind of buddhism) it means being free from mind states such as greed/delusion and the attachment to being an individual 'self' - to many buddhists the individualised self is an illusion and causes great pain and enlightmenent is transcending this. i know some people who have and certainly show signs of enlightment in this context though they would never enter into discussion on it. FOR SURE.

all i am saying is that enlightenment means different things to different people melanie rose so careful using it as a generailsed term like that.

peace sweetsong
