For any of you out there on Facebook who attended Forest Heights and remember "Mr. D," you should become his "friend." He posts frequently and many of his posts are recollections of his early days at Forest Heights. He has a special fondness for those years and he loves to communicate with former students. Yesterday, he posted a great picture of himself, Cheryl Fleming, Pam Barnett and Deborah Madewell that was taken in 1966--pretty amazing!

Becky, he appears on Facebook as "Gerry Duran." He currently lives in Jacksonville. He was born in 1943. I hope this gives you enough information to find him. If not, let me know. Just recently, there have been several posts from Stewart Nance and Grace Gladden with some great pictures of the Buffalo River area.

Thanks Kevin. I found him and added you also. He use to want to put a baseball cap on me and dress me up like a boy because I could run so fast! Now I am lucky if I walk right. He should see my oldest granddaughter run though. He would be amazed. He also taught me everything I know about football!

Becky,

The only time you ran fast in the 6th grade was when you were chasing Rickey Brasel, if my memory serves me correctly. Also, remember our band "The Rebels." Bob Breit, Joe Hickman, Jerry Pledger and me would wear 'Winthrop Rockefeller for governor' hats and pen them up on the sides to make them look like the kind of hats the patriots used. Thus, the Rebels. We knew one song, "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone by the Monkees. We played it over and over at one of Bob Breit's parties. We were a crazy bunch of 6th graders, you know that.

Greg, I remember that party at Bob's house. I "auditioned" to be the backup lead singer and lost out to Donny Gredell, thereby nipping my singing career in the bud. I also recall that Jerry Pederson wrecked his bicycle near Bob's house that night and was injured as a result.

Kevin,

My memory of that party is vague. I think it is because I played the drums throughout the party and never paid attention to what was going on around the house much. You say Jerry Pederson wrecked his bicycle, I believe Bob Breit was already riding motorcycles at that point in time.

And don't forget this one, Kevin. You defeated me in the Forest Heights spelling bee that year, representing Mrs. Fowler's class. I represented Mr.D's class. The spelling contest went on and on between us, and I finally got tired and mispelled the word "grease." Bummer for me. You went on to the Boone County spelling bee, if I remember correctly, but I don't remember how you finished there.

Finished second. Misspelled the word "privilege." I have never needed spell checker for that word--after losing, I spelled that word over and over again in my mind until it was permanently impressed on my brain.

Excuse me Greg. There was me and only one other girl in all the grade schools that made the President's Physical Fitness Team that year! Wish I had that stamina now! I can see Mr. D needs to visit this site! And you are only talking about "one" party at Bob's house? I thought there was one every Friday night!
