The American DVDs are the syndication set. Now, some episodes had snippets removed, where other haven't. The quality isn't as bad as reviews state. I have them all myself.

The uncut episodes are foreign releases, as with region 2 in France. TV recordings are worse, because more footage is cut out for sponsors, they are branded with the station's logo and the end titles are omitted. I think you'll come to the right conclusion and buy the US episodes on DVD.
