Subject: Hi, usmgrad! I think the doctor means that you shouldn't have TOO much caffeine which seems to be the Starbucks-syndrome these days. A Diet Coke contains about 45 gms vs. a cup of coffee which is about 125 gms. I know that it is always best to keep caffeine less than 300 gms per day and for someone prone to cysts, I'd say less than 225 gms day. inside
In reply to: usmgrad 's message, "So today I had another cyst drained from by breast. Of course the doctor reminded me to stay away from caffeine and take vitamin E. Do you know how hard it is to stay away from caffeine? So here I am asking for help, what is there to drink besides Diet coke (my caffeine vice)? Also any other helpful suggestion to maybe help keep these cysts at bay, I've had three removed in the past 5 years." on 19:01:16 01/18/11 Tue

If you are overweight, it would be tremendously helpful and preventive to lose weight -- for a few reasons 1. it seems that when we lower our body fat percentage, we lower the probabilities for 'mutations' -- cysts, tumors, odd cells 2. the foods that one eats when eating healthy in order to lose weight are those that are anti-carcinogenic -- vegetables, fruits, lean meats, low-fat dairy, less sugar, sat fats, more fiber and whole grains and other complex carbs, etc.
Also, increasing exercise, ASIDE from helping with weight loss, AGAIN exerts anti-carcinogenic influence on the body mainly because it encourages the hormonal secretions and sequences that fight off 'mutations'.
Hope this helps. It's not easy to make changes, especially if your lifestyle seems to be that which 'works' for you in every other way. But, often changes don't have to be 'radical'. Just 'tweaking' the lifestyle that 'works' for you in a few ways (like dropping a cup of caffeine 'whatever' per day or adding3 extra veg or fruits per day, taking a 20 minute brisk walk each day) can be the changes that make the difference between getting cancer at 75 or not.
I was addicted to Coke Zero -- 3-4 cans/day. I have decreased to 1 can/day by drinking carbonated mineral water. I add a slice of orange. I also drink more plain water by adding orange slices to the bottle or sometime chopped cucumber. That may sound gross, but the cucumber water is actually very refreshing.

[> Why not caffeine free Diet Coke? Check to see if your grocery store has their own brand. I drink Publix caffeine free diet cola, because unlike Diet Coke, the Publix version is sweetened with Splenda. And the Splenda version of Diet Coke is not caffeine free. So I have switched to the Publix brand which is half the price. Also, inside -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 03:47:51 01/19/11 Wed [1]

I also drink the diet decaf Arizona green tea. Although it has gotten hard to find recently. :-(
