Subject: Had to laugh about not saying "No" to a dog. Our trainer said most dogs think their name is "No spot." He also recommended using their name as a command - so that when they hear it, they stop and ideally come toward you. My favorite command may just be "Leave it." It can be used for just about anything you want a dog to ignore, from people food, to little kids, to other dogs. It keeps them out of all kind of trouble.
In reply to: doc 's message, "Crate training!!! I crate trained my puppies. This last one, Frances, who just turned 1 in August, still uses a crate at night & when I'm gone. Inside..." on 06:13:00 10/06/10 Wed

[> [> [> The trainer we took our dog to taught us to use the sound "eh-eh" instead of "no" because that way you don't confuse the dog in regular conversation. (Like our dog would listen? LOL) And she also taught us "Leave it." Very helpful. -- The Chief, 03:44:54 10/08/10 Fri [1]
