[> Good for you, Barb. Apparently you work for a hospital, as do I....or at least did.... -- Irishrainy, 04:26:59 10/22/10 Fri [1]

Was just notified on Wednesday that all 38 medical transcription jobs are being outsourced, effective 11/13. Now, I'm pretty happy, since I worked the overnight shift and every single weekend for over 5 years. Consequently, I've come to hate my job, although I liked the benefits and the regular pay check. However, the writing was on the wall when we leased the Dictaphone voice recognition system 3 years ago. Now they will be taking over ALL of the dictation for the hospital. The fact that they send the work to INDIA doesn't seem to bother TPTB, but what is even more despicable is the fact that they will NOT be giving anyone severance pay. Some of my coworkers have been there for 30 years! However, they did arrange for us to sign on with Dictaphone for employment....at $0.04 cents per edited line. Since I usually do 150 to 200 lines per hour, that equals $6 to $8 per hour, although the hospital paid me over $20. John C. Lincoln Hospital should be ashamed!

[> [> That all sounds horrible. My hospital just build a new addition. It opened in August, a week after I broke my foot... -- Martian Barb, 10:06:56 10/22/10 Fri [1]

there have been many changes in teh two months that I have been off. Our medical records are all being outsourced also. Now our computer documentation resource center is being outsourced also. So many people have heard that we now have a new hospital, but when they are admitted for surgery, they are jsut admitted to the old part. Many are furious, but the new hospital is all OR, Recovery room, ICU, orthopedics and out patient surgery. Nothing for the "routine" medical and surgical patients. What is worse is that the hosptial out right lied to the OB floor (where I work). We transformed all of our private post-partum rooms to semi-private rooms several years ago and were told that when the new tower opens, we would transfer them back to private rooms. Well, that hasn't happened yet and now wer are told that will never happen. Meanwhile, one of the other floors has empty rooms. It's all about the money. OB doesn't make any money for hospitals, ortho, hearts, and cancer make the money. It's sounds cruel to say that, but it is true.

I am going to see how things go next week, but I may be transferring to the out-patient surgery department to be in the new tower and have weekends and holidays off.

Good luck in your search for a new job. You are right about hospitasl, they should be ashamed of how they terat their employees.
