Subject: OLYMPIC wrap-up from your Vancouver host and woman on the spot..

I know, I'm late. But whew!!! I still feel so emotional. First of all, here is the link for the final medal tally.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! USA!!! for winning the most medals. Your athletes were inspiring and phenomenal, and too numerous to mention.

Is it okay if I say CONGRATULATIONS!!! Canada for winning the most gold ever in a winter Olympics!! Yaaaayyyy....to us!

And Congratulations to every other country, including those who only got one medal, and those who got no medals. Your athletes worked hard, and they gave their all. We loved every one of them and we miss them.

We will never forget Georgia's Nodar Kumaritashvili who died tragically at the age of 21, doing something he loved to do. He will always be remembered here in Vancouver.

And the heart and soul of the Olympics for me, Joannie Rochette. Need I say more? But there were so many stories of courage, and emotion from so many countries. So many memories.

As for me, well I've always loved Canada, but for so many years, I've considered myself a Brit. I love my country, England, and my heritage, Irish. But England changed, for better or worse, and it changed without me. The England I will always love is the the country of my past. But Canada is the country of my present, and nothing clinched that patriotic feeling of intense love more than during these last two weeks. It had nothing to do with medals and everything to do with the Canadians of every nationality, around me. And as I type, the envelope with my application for Canadian citizenship is sitting here waiting to be mailed. And it's about bloody time!

I've added pictures to my web album. They were taken on Sunday, the last day, when Steve and I hopped on a bus, and joined the fun. I am too much of a Nervous Nellie to watch a game like this, so we wandered along the streets, checking out every bar, restaurant, cafe, shop window, EVERYWHERE there was a screen. We could hear the yells, and cheers, and the groan when the score reached 2-1. So we fianlly joined a crowd in an outdoor theatre. With less than a minute to go, we all held our collective breath, and then the IMPOSSIBLE happened. OH NOOOOOOOOO!

I had to get away, so we walked on a nearby seawall, where it was relatively peacefull. The walk was unbearable. We could hear the sounds of fans from all thee high rise buildings, and didn't rest until we heard a giant roar, and all the boats in the marina sounded their horns. (I've included those little videos too.) Then we ran to join the throngs (NOT thongs Carrotts....LOL.)

For those of you who don't want to go through all the pictures again, you can start about 14 rows down, (5 rows up_and there is a picture of me in that ubiquitous salmon coloured jacket (which shall be retired poste haste) in front of the torch. You can go from there and follow Steve and me around the time of the last game. Just check out the sound on the vids, and you'll get an idea of what it was like after the game.

Thanks for joining in everyone. CLICK HERE FOR UPDATED WEB ALBUM OF AROUND VANCOUVER with Cece.
