Subject: I think present tense can work well when the story is written in 1st persn (*I* need to kiss Harm). I agree that when it's 3rd person and present tense, the stories often feel somewhat bumpy. But occassionally, it can be done and turn out great. Unfortunately, no examples come to my mind just now, but I know I've read stories where I thought it worked rather well. And despite believing that this style generally sounds a little awkward, I've even written one myself - accidentally! Did not notice that I had consistently used present tense (in a 3rd ps pov story) until I was finished, LOL, but it seemed to work for that particular story so I didn't change it.
In reply to: Deemus 's message, "I have read very little fiction written in present tense, so it feels odd to me when I read something that IS that way. It just doesn't sound right. Therefore, I would think that anything remembered would be in past tense also. If you were writing in present, I think it would still sound best to have any flashback in past tense." on 15:02:43 08/26/07 Sun
