Subject: I think there's a duty to warn the reader if the potentially upsetting element of the story is not obvious from the very beginning, comes out of left field, or happens so far into the story that the reader may already be hooked. In this particular case, it was apparent almost in the very first paragraph what the story was about. In that case, unless the very first paragraph is going to be shockingly violent or horrible, I don't think a warning is necessary. The first paragraph is as good as a warning and the back button is always right there.

  • I wonder also whether Teacup might not have realized how strongly negative the reactions to her story might be... (going inside) -- Colie, 05:54:55 04/21/07 Sat

  • I'm pretty sure she didn't know. If she did, she probably wouldn't have posted it. And I agree with what you said. Sometimes it's hard to anticipate people's reactions, especially the reactions that are so far removed from your own. (NT) -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 09:28:15 04/21/07 Sat
