Subject: I've gotten better with it. Or so people tell me. At the beginning they sounded more like me than themselves. I close my eyes and literally watch the scene in my head. Hear their voices, see their movements and actions. If it doesn't look or sound natural I don't write it. I've never written them in a British environment, but I've written them in Australia. I have a few friends who are Australian so I used some of the terms I've heard from them for my Australian characters.

  • Very interesting question for me, as I'm not American nor an English native speaker - so for me, it's always about stepping in a different cultural environment when I write about H&M. (going inside) -- Colie, 04:13:01 04/25/07 Wed

  • It's interesting to hear from someone whose first language isn't English. I agree with you about the long, uninterrupted monologues. As for the interruptions, have you noticed how it's rare for anyone to interrupt in screen dialogue? I love it on the rare occassions you see interruptions, unfinished sentences, and overlapped speach in writing and on the screen. (Inside) -- Cece, 11:16:13 04/25/07 Wed
