Any time I write fanfiction, I always spend a lot of time rewatching episodes from the season that I'm setting the story in so that I can internalize the characters' speech patterns and their "voice" of that time. I must admit, I try very hard to avoid creating characters if I don't feel comfortable giving them an appropriate voice from a linguistic point of view. -- Fic Recon
