Also- Theresa isn't asking about middle school or high school kids who lack, maturity and experience, we're talking adults taking on a 'hobby' that they are presuming to have some talent at.

People of all ages write fic; from Theresa's account we don't know that this isn't a kid.

I just don't think it's the role of a beta to judge this. A writing professor, who is grooming students for a professional career? Yes. They need to know whether they have a chance of success. But there is so much terrible fic out there already, what's it to me if one more is posted?

This person cares enough about their story that they asked for beta. That's a great first step. They deserve an honest response, but I think they also deserve to be treated as if they are at the beginning of a process.
