First, many years ago I read, "write what you know". I think most fan fic writers go with the emotions, since everybody's got"feelings" and are "more comfortable" with dealing with emotions.

Secondly, wasn't it one of the mid-19th century philosophers/poets that stated "most men live lives of quiet deperation"?? (Change that "men" to "people" and it's equally true today!!--That was said, after all, mid-19th century where women were expected to live within certain confinds, although there were always exceptions.) When we read, we read to "escape" the everyday "mundane" "sameness" of everyday life. We crave happy, fairy-tale-like endings, although there's a small minority out there who like the darker side of life. For myself, I like both, although I think I prefer the darker side simply because my own life has had it's "darker" side and I want to read something that reflects that particular reality--and I don't think I'm alone in that!!

Also--general fiction doesn't sell as well as non-fiction--because most people are caught up in the busy-ness of that sameness and making time to read about fictional characters just isn't a real priority, although I would argue taking the time to do just that would enhance the quality of their individual lives!!

Writing, for me, has always been "theraputic" and this has been true in fan fiction. I've come a long, long way since I first tentatively started writing. And writing fiction, fan fic or not, is also a very good way of "exploring" certain issues, "arguing" both sides of any given position. The real "trick" is to make that "grand argument" entertaining and do it in a subtle way to make it a good "read".

Anyway, since it's been a while (yardwork--completely renovating Mom's backyard--AND refurbishing a couple of antique furniture pieces have kept me really, really busy. Hopefully, in a couple of week, most of the yard work will be done and I can "settle" back down into a reguarly writing schedule!!
