Subject: They are both in a difficult profession. They deal with murders and child abandonment and soldiers not coming home to their families. Couple that with the fact that they are both deeply feeling, compassionate people, and there's a recipe for angst that doesn't have anything to do with any kind of fight between the two of them. Psychological angst, hurt/comfort fanfictions are very powerful and touching as long as they end with a positive resolution. I could see either Harm or Mac, or both coming home disturbed and sick at heart by something they'd had to deal with at work.
