It's hard to say what makes a story good. I'll have to think about that a little more. But as for making a story unreadable, if the mechanics are really bad, I probably will just look for something else to read. If there are just a few misspellings or grammatical errors, I may just plow through anyway if the story is good. But I can only tolerate so much when it comes to spelling and grammar. -- Fic Recon

I'm with JJ on this one. Mechanics and readability make or break the story for me. If your plot isn't thought out and your spelling, grammar, etc are bad, then I stop reading. What keeps me interested is the plot, the use of the main characters, among other things. Great plots keep me coming back for more.
