Have any of you heard about the new External Degree Society? We have been trying to get the word out, but it seems that EXD students do not know what the EXD Society is or how it can help them. Please let me know if you are interested in joining a group that has or is frantically working a job, dealing with family life, staying active in church, and working on their degree all at the same time. The EXD program is wonderful, and I learned so much while having fun with on- campus classes as well as contracts I wrote. I was scared to death about the Senior Project, but it was not bad at all. I was even placed in a test program under the Director of the Department of Biology at UAB, Dr. Ken Marion, (I live near UAB). At first I was so afraid of being a professor’s only student, and a biology professor at that since my topic was “The Potential Degradation of the Upper Cahaba River”. I am a business major, but I came through with flying colors and received an Honors Award in the studies of Natural History. The EXD Society is working on establishing an endowment for current students to receive scholarships. We are excited about the changes in the EXD Program, and we look forward to hearing from you. If you want more stories like mine, and assistance from individuals that have been in your shoes, please contact me.
