I haven't seen this one in awhile, but I recall that many of the most striking scenes occurred early in the film and depicted Neville's (Charlton Heston) profound sense of isolation and loneliness. The opening shot has him speeding though the deserted metropolis in a red convertible ("there's never a cop around when you need one"). He spends his days searching the eerily empty cityscape, occasionally taking in the only available movie, Woodstock, including a scene with Arlo Guthrie singing "Coming into Los Angeles". Back in his barricaded apartment the melancholy Neville plays chess with his "roommate", a bust with a hat on it.
