Subject: The Blu-Ray Revolution and Classic Movies

With Blu-Ray discs soon to be the one and only format for movies, do you think Universal will re-issue all our favorites in that format? More importantly, if they do, will we buy them?? Just what exactly could be done to "blu-ray" our favs that would inspire us to buy them yet again? I myself have bought "Frankenstein" at least three times over the years; same for "Dracula" and many others; each time lured by a 'new and improved such and such...'. I balked at the 75th re-issues because, as one reviewer put it about "Dracula", the original negative is long gone. So obviously, there isn't much more they can do to to enhance whatever generation copy Universal has been using all these years and so... will we as consumers buy Blu-Ray 'enhanced' copies of our monsters if they are issued? Thanks!!

Universal is in the business to make money. The old saying, demand and supply comes to mind. There will be brand-new transfers for sure. Also, up to 4 to 5 films can put on 1 Blu-Ray DVD with dual-layer. Disc two would hold the extra materials.

Give them a chance at the onset. This does give them a opportunity (if they want), to issue many of their back catalog of films. Standard DVD works with Blu-Ray DVD, so your current library will always be good. It could be well worth the wait. The original 35mm negative of Dracula was reprinted so many times, it wore out in the 40's. They had to use release prints that were struck off it instead for DVD.
