Talent

Holly Davis- tap dance was not that good. not really a fan of tap dances unless theyre really good.

Denise Powell- sang "orange colored sky" and was expecting way more from her but it was not all that.

Amanda Clifton- lyrical dance was okay but not really a standout for talent at all.

Danielle Sims- Very pleasant suprise. Jazz danced to "baby im a star" and was AMAZING. I would say she's one of the best dancers for this year at OT.

Alayna Murphy- Wasnt all that good

Piper Booth- Amazing pointe skills. just wish her routine wouldve been a little longer but overall it was amazing.

Blake Castle- Cute girl and a good talent. Wouldnt say she's a stand out talent but really good overall.

Kimberly Page- sang "somebody to love" and I really feel that it was very copied from Miss Minnesota's rendition. and yes it was copied from her because the original song is NOT like that at all and the only version of the way she sang it was Miss Minnesota's at Miss America. Dress and movements I feel were copied as well. Only diff. pretty much was that her's was pink. Overall with that being said good performance but I dont think she deserved the win for talent. She cracked several times during the song. I dont have anything against her but these are my honest opinions and I am not a fan of pageant copying ESPECIALLY in the same year. and if you dont blv she copied watch this.

Claudia Taylor- Danced en pointe to "sparkling diamonds" from moulin rouge and I just thought why the heck is she doing this en pointe. She went en pointe like 3 times in the whole dance. but overall not that good.

Amanda Emerson- WONDERFUL tap dance to "ease on down the road". suprise from her too and im not so fond of tap dancing but i went "NOW THATS A TAP DANCE" she wasnt a talent winner but was amazing and I think she'll make top 10.

Olivia Saungenetti- Suprised at how nice her voice is. She sang some broadway song and she was quite good.

Lydia Myers- GREAT vocals. personally think she shouldve stuck with her local song "astonishing" but I did like her presentation of "I am changing". Great stage personality!

Chassidy Sumler- Sang " The circle of life" from the lion king and was AMAZING. Talent win well-deserved.

Taylor Cook- Loved the dance to "Fame". She has great technique and great leaps. Lots of great energy as well and was a stand out tonight.

Ryan Henry- ABSOLUTELY AMAZING talent. I thought sure she was going to win with Chassidy. She sang "Girl in 14g" and did a great job on it. Dress was a little short but it was okay. I think she should try to be on broadway one day.

Jolie Buchanan- Wasnt much of a stand out to me.

Evening Wear/OSQ/Active Wear

Layla Taylor- Active wear- was not good at all, but evening wear was GREAT. Her dress was really pretty on her and she answered her question very well.

Kayla Peno- Active wear wasnt all that , but evening wear was okay and osq wasnt all that either.

Holly Harrington- Definitely a stand out. Active wear was one of the best of the night and evening wear was so gorgeous on her. She answered her question very very well.

Haley Anna Warren- Evening gown wasnt all that. Active wear wasnt all that. OSQ was HORRIBLE. Her question was "what do you think the biggest problem is facing teens today" She says "Ya know thats a really good question, but Im just gonna have to get back to you on that one". Had the audience cracked up.

Anne E. Buys.- Active wear was really good. Evening wear was nice and coloring was great, but osq wasnt that good.

Lexus Teddy Null- dont really remember her and was not a stand out.

Alivia Roberts- Wasnt all that good in anything

Brooke Annete Smith- Active wear was okay. dont really remember anything else from her. not a stand out.

Lauren Taylor Huff- Wasnt a stand out but pretty girl. was just ok in everything.

Bethany Cuevas- Active wear was great. Evening wear was dissapointing and plain and OSQ was just barely ok.

Kami May- Looks soooo much better this year. really good active wear and evening wear was pretty. OSQ was really really good.

Makel Hutchins- Cute girl and just ok in everything.

Katelyn Collins- Really good in everything. Kind of a stand out for me. ill just have to wait to see her talent.

Christina Bostick- was SO AMAZING in everything. Definitely a stand out so far.

Ashley Hamby- Another great one in all. Stand out def. and well deserved evening wear win.

Cece Hillman-AWSOME. very nice color of her dress and amazing answer. active wear was great too.

WEll those are my reviews and opionions. Some may agree some may not but its okay either way!

Both chassidy and kimberly were well deserving. Who cares if its something someone has done. All of these songs have been done by somebody.saying all of that on sat night henry will win and chassidy and kimberly will be in first and second they will say they split each other votes and henry will have the better average. So that it will look fair. The one I feel sorry is ryan she will not be able to enjoy the win without always wondering but then again she may not care. >Talent

I doubt she'd wonder why she won, she has been amazing thus far. However, she might wonder why people such as yourself have been so mean to her! give it a rest already and move on. I don't even know the girl and I'm pulling for her not only because she's deserving but also because i think you all should lay off!

Mouth of the South, I usually agree with you most of the time; however, this time I have to disagree with you. Thusday's talent was stronger than last night's. As a dance teacher, Amanda Emerson's talent was not a tap dance. It was a clog dance which uses a jingle tap type shoe. She was amazing, but what we heard was not her doing more movements with her feet than any other contestant. However, her adding the flips in those shoes was outstanding. Piper Booth technically was very good en pointe, but not entertaining. Holly Davis' dance was incredible. She didn't look like she was having fun. Danielle Sims was FLAWLESS! Her leaps were incredible. Amanda Clifton was ok with her lyrical dance. Taylor someone looked like she was having fun, but her en pointe dance was awful. Why she called it en pointe when she went up like 4 times and fell out of her spins is beyond me. That's all I really remember on dance. As far as the dancers of that night, if they were at a dance competition like KAR or DEA, the top four winners would be Danielle, Piper, Amanda Em and Holly.

I do not see how Kimberly Page tied for talent. She was flat on more than one occassion. Chassidy Summler was phenominal. Her talent was the best of the night. If she had to tie, I would have thought it should have been a tie with Danielle Sims.

Really wasn't that impressed with Ryan Heney's song. She has talent and is very cute! I think it will be between Kimberly Page, Chassidy Summler and Ryan Henry. But this is just my opinion!

It is a sad fact, but the girl with the most points may not win since the top five ballot was introduced. Your overall score will get you to the top five, but after that it is all subjective. If the judges have been instructed to select a particular type (young, fresh look; ethnic look; interview queen etc)then if you don't fit that description you are not going to win.

The whole thing was a joke. Those were the tackiest costumes. Those dresses from K-mart and that all boy Middle School Combo. OMG what was that. I was just really surprised that nobody complained after all the money we spent to get a product like this. I was very pleased with the winner. Just as long as Henry did not win it and she almost did. Where does the line form for the refunds?

Where does the line form for the refunds? LOL. I like that one.

Is it true that Bostick's director charged her for interview coaching and coaches other contestants for money? I thought that was against the rules. Can he do that? And I heard that the higher-ups @ Miss MS have been made aware of this but have done nothing to stop him from continuing what he's doing. Surely this can't be right.

Somebody fill in the blanks for me. I figured this director was one of the good guys but know I'm starting to wonder.

Sorry if I overlooked noticing if they gave this award this
year. Who received this award if given?
How was Friday night's talent stronger as someone mentioned in an earlier post? Didnt three of the top five
come out of Thursday's talent?

Page has now done exactly what Anna Tadlock did last year. Tied for prelim win, and be the only contestant to win both prelims. Looks like it's hers to lose. If she does not win on the final ballot, we'll all know what's up at that point. This is the way I see it shaking out:

Miss MS OT 2010 - Kimberly Page
1st RU - Ryan Henry
2nd RU - Chassidy Sumler
3rd RU - Christina Bostick
4th RU - Ashley Hamby

Remaining Top 10:
CeCe Hillman
Olivia Sanguinetti
Amanda Emerson
Taylor Cook
Lydia Myers

If Page's final placement is any lower than 1st RU, you can assume that 2 or more judges 'tanked' her on the final ballot so that their own choice would win easily. Not a pretty thought, but totally possible.

Chassisy was robbed! She simply outshined
on her gown and her osq answer was super. A picture
of perfection. How are these judges scoring? Honestly
true disappointment.

Did you really think that anyone but Henry would win the prelim last night? You KNEW they were going to give her one, and when she didn't win talent it was a no-brainer that she'd win EG last night. They had to set her up so that her landing in Top 5 would be easily understandable...they don't want Page to run away with it, and she won't!

There are many talented girls here this week.
Amazing vocals & dancers with well trained tech.
But as far as true entertainment to go along with it
the jail-bird stole the show! She is a beautiful girl
as well.

I could not agree more on both. Over all As far as
just standing out in the crowd and on stage during
competition or production Makel is just a breath of
fresh air, she is not just another pretty face but is
beautiful and stands out you add her personality
and she simply shines. Her tap skills were amazing though
she not only put on a show but stole this one!

I am just going to have to say that I agree on this. Her talent was by
far the most entertaining this week. I have attended MOT pageants for
years and she is awesome to watch. The personality this young lady
pours into her 2 min.'s is comparable to none! Does anyone have
any idea how long she has been dancing? And if tap is her only form?
I know this was he first trip to MMOT but is is obvious she is no stranger to the stage. Before her talent night she was already the talk of the week.
Her look is so classy & unique her lips are so pretty with that long dark hair she should have won her EG priliminary. She was so striking in that white gown. I was so glad to see her in the top 10. She does strike as an older girl with her outstanding features and poise. I hope to see. Her back as a Miss I would imagine she would knock em' dead in swim suit
she has the looks, poise, beauty, talent & body that so
any Miss's lack! She's the perfect fit for a MIss Mississippi in my
opinion the total package!

You can also add the fact that the girls loved her to her list. Her personality was not just staged she was a nice and very liked contestant. I just wanted to point this out because I feel she is unique & genuine. There are so many so quick to post all the bad that I feel the need to make a note of the good. As a parent I know it's good to hear the nice things
that others find about our children.

I agree with you. Emerson and Sumler were both stunning and answered very well. Henry and Page were both good too, but I hated Henry's bow on the back, and didn't like the front of Page's dress. It flowed very nice though. Best dress was Sumler. She just walked too slowly. Emerson looks great this year!

Makel Hutchins (Tupelo), Kimberly Page (Southern Magnolia), Olivia Sanguinetti (Dixieland), Anne Elizabeth Buys (Southland), Christina Bostick (LRV),

Holly Harrington (Dixie), Danielle Sims (Dogwood Festival), Ryan Henry (Riverland), Ashley Hamby (West Central), Chassidy Sumler (Metro Jackson)

7 of the girls hold 'open' titles, 3 hold 'closed' titles. And, ALL of them competed in real pageants. It appears that NONE of the finalists were appointed. (FYI, parents...next year, if your daughter doesn't win a real pageant - save your money!! Don't buy a crown and head to Vicksburg...it's a waste!)

Kim Page did not get robbed. In her 4 years at MMOT she made the top ten the first year and top five her 2nd, 3rd and 4th years. She always looses on the top five ballot and I don't know why anyone would think this year was going to be any different. She has a great interview and talent but the purpose of the top five ballot is to look at all five girls and determine who you think should go on to the National level REGARDLESS of their overall score. The last three years the judges have determined that they did not feel that she had the right look to succeed on the National level.

Chassidy Sumler did not get robbed. She too is a beautiful, talented girl. Her song gave me chill bumps but again she lost it on the top five ballot. Keep in mind that both of these girls are going into their senior year and while beautiful, both looked more mature than Bostick, Henry and Harrington.

Danielle is a beautiful girl and with a little work she could do very well. Her evening gown was a knock off of the white one that Danielle Smith wore at Miss MS last year (too old looking for teen pageant). Her leg extensions are beautiful when she dances but she needs to do them to the side and not facing the audience. I expect that we will see her back next year.

And there ya go! Just like I thought - enough judges tanked Kimberly Page so that she wasn't even 1st RU even though she won more prelim awards than anyone in the entire pageant - even those who eventually 'beat' her on the final ballot. That's why this is all so crappy. You can have more points than anyone else and STILL LOSE because of the final ballot. That's just so wrong!

*Oh, and notice which prelim got girls in the first 2 spots!*

Yeah, like someone said - don't hold your breath to see something done about this by anyone in Vicksburg. The contestant won't be complaining now so, oh well...

This is the 1st installment of Marks' payback from Miss MS. For the second installment, tune in on July 10, 2010!

I think it's really misleading to go by these pics in the dresses they're made to wear. If you're going to judge whose 'look' is the best then put them all side by side in the EGs they chose and then decide.

answered her on-stage question with no hesitation.
Classy southern charmer. I am anxious to see

She definitely needs to work on her accent. I thought she was stunning until she opened her mouth and I heard that accent.....

Well I don't want to step on toes we all have
our own opinions but this is Mississippi. A true southern
state. She is a hometown girl who is very highly thought of
she speaks often in public, is a very smart girl accent & all
that's true Mississippi she is respectful, has an awesome
personality & her outward beauty is nothing compared to her inward.
True Mississippi through & through with great Christian values. She is a leader who always takes a stand for her community & for helping others. Wish you knew her better girls like her are few and far between!

I don't think the person was attacking Makel personally; just her accent -- which is very country. She is all the other accolades presented by the poster (genuine, considerate, moral, etc), but she needs to work on the accent -- keep the southern charm, but just work on it.

It has something to do with the change in the percentage that evening gown earns.

Then put her in a list with 4-5 other girls so you won't be point out just 1. That way you can find out what people think about the one you care about with out singling her out.

Amanda Emerson - Talent was solid. Could be a contender for Top 10.

Amanda Clifton - She's a cute girl, but not a stand-out to me.

Christina Bostick - I had to look her up to remember her, and I still can't. Sorry.

CeCe Hillman - Looked beautiful in evening gown. Answered her question well. I like her.

Amanda Emerson - Is poised to surprise folks this year. Given the talent performance she turned in last night and the platform-related stuff she's done recently, I think she's gonna be at least Top 10. Do a search for her and you'll find the FB page "Crowns 4 Cures" with lots of info. I was impressed.

Amanda Clifton - Cute. Appears to really 'want' this, not sure that she has the 'it' factor though.

Christina Bostick - Very pretty girl. VERY.

CeCe Hillman - Gorgeous. Very consistent. If she interviews well, could be Top 10.

yes but according to the previous posts, noone knew who she was or didn't notice her before tonight. I wasn't saying her score was low but that the others could be as high more or less.

only one person said they did not remember her from the first night. on mouth of the south's first review they said Bostick was amazing in everything...and then mouth jumped on the other band wagon saying she did not remember her...regardless, pretty girl and with the two dancers on the panel I would say top 5 for sure!

If Ryan Henry wins the pageant, she did it on her own merit regardless of her director or mother. I still think Kim Page will win, but Ryan is absolutely gorgeous and should definitely go for Miss Mississippi.

Evidently you did not see the same girl I saw, because Ryan Henry appears to be a snob, she acts like she is better then everyone!!! Not what I think a MMOT should be! If it were to rain and she were outside she would drown because her nose is up in the air!

How RUDE! Maybe she is just not outgoing? I have

Ok, well now we know who you are... If you wanted your kid's picture to be on a website and his/her sweet little face to light up the darkness on the internet, then don't hold your breath. And, don't expect your little darling to get much airtime either - they're only in this thing to bring in more cash, don't you know? Not for any other reason. Duh.

With the money they pay??? You've got to be kidding me! If there are parents out there paying money just so their kid can get his/her headshot on a website, then they've got more problems than we can fix by complaining on a messageboard! The MMOT Pageant will be doing good just to get all the contestants some facetime...prince and princess kids are there because they will pay money to participate and put butts in seats. EOS. They didn't pay nearly as much as the actual contestants. Maybe you should be more concerned with your director duties and less concerned with your little princess.

Sweetie, do you always douche with a bag of lemons and vinegar? Or are you ALWAYS a sour puss? Opinions are like rectums and obviously you have plenty of negative things to say. What's the name of the perfume you wear? Is it called Analbreeze? Get a grip with yourself, get out in the sun and get you some rays, it will make you feel sooooo much better. Meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

With this panel of judges, you can mark Ryan Henry down as the winner. This will be Michael Marks first installment on his payback. The next installment will be when Cofield wins the Miss.

I can't say your wrong. This panel of judges just makes me angry. All the time and money the girls and parents put into this program not to mention all the hard work to have a former Miss Mississippi and a third alternate to Miss Mississippi not to mention a former local director!! who is good friends with Michael Marks. The teen program is struggling to get girls to do the program. Numbers are down each year and now this? Why can't they just let the girls compete and have them judged fairly? Why pick judges that know Ryan's mother and who is friends with her director? Can you get any more blunt than that? With this panel even if Ryan was to win it fair and square no one would ever believe it? I wouldn't want a title that was set up for me and I didn't earn. What happens if she wins and goes to nationals are they going to get to pick the judges that know her? Why not send the best Mississippi has to offer and leave the politics out of it! And come to think of it, it isn't fair to Ryan either. I just don't understand why this panel was chosen. This makes you feel like why even show up, all my hard work was for nothing. I'm not excited to be going now because I feel like it all over with before it even began. Thanks Miss Mississippi!

So, who are the judges. I don't think they have ever been posted here. As for Ryan Henry, she is as cute as a button and should have place higher last year. I've only met her once, but was very impressed with her as a true teen. Just because of who here mother is, should not cause her to be downed in any way. Give her a chance to make her own way.

Ok I agree, I truely believe that the teen that is the best prepared for the pageant and performs the best will win the pageant. period ....... it happened last year she was best in fitness, evening gown and TALENT and given how the child speaks in public I feel sure she was great in interview. I'm sure this year will be great!!!!!!!

well last year the judges weren't from this state and they did not personally know a contestant and her family not to mention her director? What is Miss Mississippi thinking? And to the person who thinks Ryan should have placed higher last year? I ask you why? She is cute, and her talent is ok but nothing great. Don't even remember her onstage question which means that it did not stand out. And for you to make these comments I would guess that you have met her more than once? If this was the Miss pageant the contestants would be fired up to have this panel of judges. The contestants and their family not to mention their directors don't need to have the connections with the judges? I just want this pageant to be fair!! And like the poster stated above this panel isn't fair to Ryan either because if she wins nobody will believe everything was on the up and up.
By the way here is list of the judges
Allison Kellogg- Miss Mississippi 2003
Carla Tigner- 3rd runner up to Miss Mississippi 1983
Michael A Mitchell- former director of Miss USM pageant till 2007
Jerry Lynn Alford- State Field Director Miss Tennessee
Amanda Joseph May- Miss Louisiana 2007

If three of the judges have connections with a contestant and her director than that is the majority of the vote.
Why not get judges that don't have connections with the girls and send the best that Mississippi has to offer?

What is wrong with this panel? Looks pretty good to me. We've always had former Miss Mississippis judge the teen and the Miss pageant. Most of them left the state and have no ties to any contestants. As for the former local director, it seems disrespectful to say he can be influenced in his decisions. By the way, I don't know Michael Marks so don't assume I am a conspirator. Just hear everybody talking about him.

And you do?... why is this year his year to have a winner? Why not last year ? Or the year before? I think some know the potential that R Henry has and are doing their best to spoil it for her by throwing baby fits. Grow up. Seriously? Just because a person won MS MISS years and years ago doesn't mean she knows every one thats won after her. I'm sure she has a life other than this pageant. Its common for past title holders to judge pageants. It's what makes them qualified to judge, right? Maybe they saw the error in not having them last year..just sayin. What does that say about the integrity of these people whom none of you have ever met? To assume that they'd be willing to take part in something that's not fair is not only attacking Ryan and her mom, but also the judges. Why would everyone assume theres some malicious intent? Couldn't they have just given it to her last year if that were the case? Come on..were you there? It wouldn't have been a stretch to say she deserved it as much as the winner did. Stop bagging on this poor girl and give her a chance. She has just as much right to compete without all this drama as anyone else does. I know you're all hoping that if you complain enough she won't win but wouldn't that be just as bad as what you've accused her of doing? Shes a beautiful, young girl and I'm sure she sees this.Certainly doesn't deserve this ridicule.

I certainly do not feel the panel of judges is fair due to the fact that a former Miss MS and former alternate are alumni of the Miss MS program, because you all know as well as I do, it's a sorority. I think it's time that the girls parents stand up and do something about this. IF I had a daughter, you want to know what I would do? I would NOT let her compete. If every parent threatened to pull their daughter out of the pageant, I can assure you things would change faster than the board could put their panties on in the morning. Just a thought parents!!! You going to spend all your money for a competition when the winner has PROBABLY already been chosen? IF Henry wins, I hope that every parent sues the Miss MS board and makes them reimburse every dollar that every parent had to spend to put their daugher on stage....for NOTHING!

I don't understand WHAT makes Henry deserving? and other girls capable? What has she done to DESERVE the title. I promise you other girls have worked very hard. Who your mama is don't make you deserve anything? I guess she DESERVES for the judges to be stacked in her favor too. I don't blame Miss Mississippi if she comes prepared. I blame Miss Mississippi for getting a panel of Judges that are questionable.

I think the only thing that is deserved if that the other contestants DESERVE a panel that doesn't have connections with a contestant and her family or director!

I agree with the post. It will be the same disaster as a few years ago with the christy may judging episode.thought the board would have learned. Parents were furios. Another stack on judge for Henry is that M Mitchell is friends with M Marks. And the list goes on. Seeing Henry competete even she gave it 150 per cent everyday she would not be ready for top spot. She is pretty but talent is not amazing. Can't believe miss miss would guarantee Marks 2 spots. One for Henry and one for Coffield.not fair to girls who think they really have a chance. Same thing will happen tho when they move up! >I certainly do not feel the panel of judges is fair

ALL of Marks' judges are either former students of his, spouses of former students, or CLOSE PERSONAL friends. If you don't think that he told them who he wanted, you're crazier than the MMBOD is for thinking that we can't figure out what's going on here! Get it through your heads, people! Scandal comes with the territory when you're dealing with this guy. This is not NEW news. Seriously people, when will you learn?
