Subject: I have a suggestion for the scheduling of local pageants so as to open as many pageants as possible to all contestants. Divide all authorized locals into 2 groups---east and west. Equal number in each group. No more than one pageant in the east and one pageant in the west would be allowed to be scheduled on the same night. New pageants authorized after the division of locals into groups would be assigned to the appropriate group, and would have choice of remaining dates equally with all other unscheduled pageants in their group. Dates would beapproved by the state pageant on a first-come first served basis, but again, no more than one eastern and one western pageant on the same night. Thoughts?

with 30-36 weeks between Miss Oklahoma and contestant's day in March, that would give the approximately 20-22 locals in each group plenty of time to hold their pageants and attract quality contestants. Excellent idea. Let's see if any directors are willing to pick this up and run with it. (NT)Miss titleholder in 2005Friday, November 06, 05:53:20pm

You also have to consider weekends that encompass rush, holidays and home football games because that can really affect your gate. Many colleges schedule on homecoming or special weekends. This is a good plan but probably won't work. (NT)IMHOFriday, November 06, 07:06:37pm

what could it hurt to try for one year? It is certainly better than having 3 or 4 pageants in the same area on the same night. (NT)guruSaturday, November 07, 11:59:44am

another point in favor of this proposal---many of the university pageants are held on weekdays, freeing weekend dates for community locals. I think this idea should be discussed by the state board. Whoever thought this up----good job! (NT)contestantSaturday, November 07, 01:52:46pm

Scheduling also depends on when is available for the local organizations and their auditoriums. Locals are already trying not to book the same dates, but open weekends due to their schedules and school schedules is not that easily manipulated. In a perfect word, there would be not pageants on the same night, but not possible. Also realize that there have been rescheduling of pageants, partly because of the girls not participating. Maybe they should start competing earlier and stop trying to wait or hand pick their pageants. Don't make the locals a game, but rather an opportunity. there certainly must be a better way than what is being done now. At least someone is putting some thought into the issue! (NT)local board memberSaturday, November 07, 08:26:18pm

i'd like to know what the contestants think of this idea? (NT)former directorFriday, November 20, 06:08:06pm

As a contestant, I think this is a wonderful idea! It would allow us to enter more pageants because there wouldn't be overscheduling. (NT)contestantFriday, November 27, 02:56:52pm

I just checked the Miss O website for dates and there are only 5 weekends with more than one pageant scheduled. Of those, 7 of those pageants are closed based on address or school. I don't see a big problem with scheduling as is. Miss O already approves dates and the locals try to work together to not overlap. There have been alot of pageants with only a few contestants. If these girls were entering every pageant it would be one things, but they also have schedules which prevent them from entering, so I think that we need to realize there are schedules on both sides and none of them can be predicted. The system is doing its best and a pretty good job. (NT)Not that badFriday, November 27, 09:15:10pm
