  In Fifth Race(last night's show), where Jack gets the Ancients legacy downloaded into his brain, they dial 8 symbols to reach the planet, where the Asgaard are & Jack gets his brain wiped.
  So why, when they figure out how to get to Atlantis, is it such a big deal that Daniel figures out that they need to dial out with 8 symbols again? This was covered years before....and why didn't they try it again? I know: plot complications, but they need some coherence! I know it's a big power drain, but I'd try it again, somehow....wouldn't you?

I expect I'll be sporting a new "white coat" shortly. LOL! Anyway, I wish I had seen last nights episode. That's one of my all time favorites where he meets the Asgard. I have no clue why they didn't try it again other then they knew it needed all that powe. As I recall, Jack had made that home made "battery" that apparently was good for one use only. Perhaps after that they had no power source powerful enough??? I forget how they did the Atlantis gate dial..... What did they power it up with? Oh my.         • Hmmm, trying to define the concepts of time travel and alternate realities. I'm not sure I'm up for it. But the way it's been used in SG1 is that they're not related unless changes take place. The mere fact that "old" Hammond had the note that was given to "young" Hammond indicates that this had happened before, so no messing up the timeline. But there has to be a correlary that states when travelling through time, you can't exist indefinitely with your other self.             • I think that's a pretty good definition of how things work, at least according to the Stargate world. Most time travel stories/moves/tv shows have an element of "don't be near your double for bad things will happen". With the possible exception of "Sliders" which banked on the fact that people would think the characters were really the AU versions of themselves ... and often interacted with the duplicates.   Fans of the devious and snarky Vala Mal Doran are already missing the character, who departed Stargate SG-1 after a six-episode run this season. But there is good news.
  
  Actress Claudia Black will return to SG-1 late in Season Nine, TV Guide's Matt Roush is reporting. "I dug up a little scoop that Claudia Black, who plays Vala, will return for two episodes in the back half of SG-1's season, to air in the winter," Roush said.
  
  Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") reportedly told fans at last weekend's official Stargate convention in Chicago, Illinois that Black would appear in the season's nineteenth episode, "Crusade," according to a report at Stargate SG-1 Solutions. If true, this indicates a strong possibility that Vala's second return episode could be "Camelot," the season finale and twentieth episode of the year.
  
  Could Vala hold on for Season Ten ... and possibly even become a series regular? Fans of Claudia Black certainly hope so. The SCI FI Channel is expected to reveal whether or not Stargate SG-1 will be picked up for a record-breaking tenth season in the weeks ahead.

    • I know you don't like even the idea of a Sam/Jack pairing, but the show has been very clear about this relationship - while it couldn't happen with Sam reporting to Jack, it was never in doubt what they felt for each other. Look at the way Jack acted in Windows of Opportunity with the quitting of his job so he could kiss her before time reset; or the noncommital "I feel for her more than I should" comment in the Super SG1 episode; or the passionate, sparks flying everywhere kiss/conversation in the season 8 finale. It's all there and the mere fact that they don't live in the same state doesn't negate their attraction to each other or the possibility that they have a relationship now that Jack's moved onto another path of his career.     • I thought SG1 was decent. It had some really fun moment ("So, who's the back-up singer?") and a good explanation for Vala's departure and potential return...with a little snark thrown in about how annoying her character can be. :-) Atlantis was okay. I liked hearing about Ronon's background, but the Rodney thing was annoying. I know they did it to provide a rift of sorts between Rod and Shep, but I was bored with Rodney's "I know more than you do" attitude.   • I don't know if it;s because my life is so busy and I'm just plain POOPED all the time, or what.. but I must admit... I haven't been really impressed w/ any of the Stargate eps as yet this season. Yes, they've been entertaining to some extent and definitely watchable... but... either I've changed or the eps just don't have the ZING they used to. I'm still waiting for a WOW! episode.. and I haven't gotten it yet. I DO like the Vala character. I like the Mitchell character also, but so far he's proven to be no Jack. Perhaps now that Sam is back things will get moving better. On Atlantis, my fav character is Sheppard. It seems he's lately only been a supporting character w/ the others more out front. I thought the thing between him and Rodney was ... I don't know.. Odd isn't the right word but... I don't know what is.   I always thought the skulls were just the writers idea. I was watching something on the travel channel and apparently the skulls are real and there is about a dozen of them. The type of crystal they are made of is the kind in computer chips......and they are about 2000 years old!

  I loved tonights eps! Daniel's face when he realized he was stuck with Vala? priceless.... Mitchell hiding his laughter (not very well I might add) was also an added bonus. I must say though that I'm really going to miss Vala when/if she leaves as she is the best thing they have going for them currently, IMO. I'm still trying to warm up to Mitchell and without Vala, Danny tends to be rather dull, attractive, but kinda dull. I adored the Senate committee hearing only because of Vala's outrageousness. I think that she is just so irreverantly delightful and plays off of Daniel quite nicely.
  Though I must say that my favorite scenes tonight were by far were on Atlantis with McKay. I absolutely LOVED Carson's face when Rodney/Laura kissed that Katie girl - and that toast? . But I have to say that the look on Sheppard's face when Carson got a kiss too was well worth the price of admission.

  • I particularly liked the part of Atlantis where the new guy (Ronon?) was trying out the weapons and then showed Sheppard how his OWN worked. I laughed out loud ----- to me, a clear indicator that I like the ep! On SG-1, I am wondering how they're going to bring Teal'c & Sam (and, of course, Daniel) back into SG-1 under Mitchell.   • I found it interesting that they brought up a story of all the money going from the Stargate program over to Atlantis. This had been my secret fear - that all the creativity would leave my beloved Stargate and go over to Atlantis, kinda like JAG and NCIS. Looks like that's not going to happen and I'm relieved.   Several weeks ago we brought you Sony/MGM's basic announcement about the release of Stargate SG-1 - Season 8. The only info available, though, was that it is a 5-DVD set with a $55.99 SRP which hits the streets on October 4th.
  
  While the studio still has not spoken out about bonus material yet (we're certain it will be there, just like it has been on every other season set release, but we don't know what it will be yet), they have provided some nice box art to us now, along with an episode synopsis for each story, broken down by disc. Note that the episode #'s listed in Sony/MGM's descriptions seem to be the production numbers, which is would explain why the list appears to be out-of-sequence: the DVDs are presented in airdate order instead of in production order. You can pre-order the set at Amazon.com for just $39.16!

      • Well now that is a thought about Weir, but I don't know what she could have done. I mean the people did know about the gate, they just chose not to use it to escape. These people were essentially feeding their own to the Wraith in an extreem form of self-preservation. I didn't really have any sympathy for the head guy. Now the law abiding general population who had no idea what was going on are another story. Should she have tried to save them all, or get her own folk and run?   I think a religious war with fundamentalist nutso humorless bad guys is JUST what we all need to see on tv right now! Yesiree! We don't get to see NEAR enough of that kind of thing in REAL life, do we? Believe what I believe or you're dead! Oh yes! VERY entertaining!
  
  But these Ore Ida folks will probably be better than the Go'auld. That whole snakelike thing roaming around inside of folks was just icky!
  
  And btw -- I have a few questions that I am too lazy to go research:
  
  If the Go'auld are no more ..... does that mean that none of the Jaffa are hosts anymore? And if not, do they all take that stuff that Teal'c takes to keep him from dying or whatever? What about those folks (I can't recall their name) who had "good" Go'auld in them. Are they still around? [Sam's father died, yes? Too bad. I really liked that character]
  
  What was the reason for Jack leaving? Seeing him in the last ep in uniform tells me he didn't retire ..... so what's he doing?
  
  And I forget --- where has Sam been the last two eps? [clearly I have attention issues! LOL!]
  
  I like Lou Gossett and I look forward to his future appearances. I still can't get used to Teal'c WITH hair and withOUT mascara.

      • Actually Sam's Dad is dead. Jack has moved on. He sold his house. He's in transition to his new job. As in all AU stories Sam only makes out with Jack because Daniel wasn't there. She Daniel were quite close until Daniel died. As we know this season, there is no Jack/Sam. They have moved on. Still think they will put Sam with Daniel in the end. Funny thing Michelle, I like Atlantis better. The writing has been much better than SGC-1. The stories are better. The interaction of the characters are better. (NT) -- T, 19:48:32 08/01/05 Mon
        • There's room for interpretation of Jacob's fate at the end of the season. When we originally see the fishing scene, it's after Jacob's death and they're talking about it. In the final scene of the season, after the time travel rework, we have them back at the fishing hole (Sam says again, "why didn't I ever do this before?") and there's no mention whatsoever of Jacob's death. Since the scene is meant to duplicate what happened before, it stands to reason that Jacob could have survived the revised timeline and was out in the universe somewhere. I've never realy seen any "thing" going on between Sam & Danile; and I'll guess that TPTB aren't going to "go there". They've already been pretty darn explicit with the Sam/Jack thing and I seriousy doubt that they'd have her get romantically/emotionally involved with Daniel too.             • I can see where you're coming from, but I just don't agree. Sam and Daniel are more like brother/sister than potential lovers. They both are very gifted, but those similarities are the very things that would make them a bad match, IMHO. They'd get into research mode and forget about each other. Daniel, when with Vala, is forced to be outside his head and responding to human contact. Sam, when with Jack or Martouf if you want to go back that far, becomes more than a sum of her parts, she becomes a woman who is really there. And you're probably not alone in just plain liking the idea of them together ....... but what *I* have ALWAYS liked about Stargate is how they not only allow, but really point up how men & women can be friends and colleague withOUT "romance". Sure --- there's nearly always going to be a little teensy spark of possibiity between male & female co-workers, but I really appreciate how Stargate depicts the warm comraderly feelings that can exist in the workplace without romantic love.
