Yep, I have the preset hovabator and honestly if you buy it directly from GQF you get the entire setup maxed out with everything you'll need AND 30 quail eggs.....granted they are bobwhite eggs and you'll probably not want to keep them afterwards.....but either way the price for the equipment is better buying that package where shipping is included in the price.
I am actually using the Hovas now, haven't plugged in the Sportsman again....YET!
I have the typical variety of colors and all are in a mixed pen, I gave up going for one color or another. The odd thing is that they all started laying maybe a month ago.....these are the last hatch I did a while back, after putting them into the aviaries they took a break from laying. I am not sure if the males are just not with it or what, but I put 40 eggs into the bator along with some of my own chicken eggs. 20 I knew were too old, but figured I would try and candle and if no good, just toss....so out of 20 that should have been no more than 5 days old....I have 5 eggs TOTAL of button quail left in the bator. And of those 5, I know one wasn't good, but I left it in until this Saturday in the hopes that MAYBE it was still growing.
Thank goodness for the great candler I bought because it really can shine through a button egg and made clearing out the bator very very easy.
I have some Salmon Faverolle chicken eggs coming....2 batches from 2 different breeders and then 12+ Porcelain D'Uccles....can't wait, I am hoping for decent hatches so that I can begin raising both of those breeds. I am leaning towards all the breeds that aren't so flighty and spazzy....it's just nice to be able to move around them without them flipping out and going into a scene from 'The Birds'! :)
