I actually know the ones you are talking about in Florida. They are a pure strain actually and the poultry world has then classified as such, just can't remember the name of the breed.
I honestly wouldn't care that much because I got such a kick out of seeing the hens hiding in my yard and hatching out their babies....BUT way too many chicks made it past the hawks last year and the population got so big that they HAD to become tame enough to be under my feet constantly in hopes of getting some feed AND they made it impossible for me to feed my birds that had the run of the yard in the back, such as the geese, muscovies and guinea fowl....they would come in and swoop up all the feed....and then add in the fact that I can't control where they go and what they come in contact with....so disease becomes a worry.....so yep the cute wild chickens just HAD to go.
To satisfy my need to see chickies though....I hatch a TON still....and let my broody Silkie hens hatch out batches for me too :)
