She (and the other contentants who used the same line) came off as being less genuine, IMO. I suggested to her that she needs to get a pageant coach, so she had. As a mother, I want to protect my daughter, her heart and her feelings. She has the looks but to be honest, I don�t feel her resume can compete with the girls that made it as semifinalist. She�s 23 years old in community college and by the time the next pageant comes around, she would not be a graduate. She has little modeling and acting experience, works fulltime goes to school at night and still with her busy schedule she finds the time to work her passion, community service. Do I have it wrong? Does she have a chance? As I stated before, I want to protect my daughter so I don�t want her to get her hopes up time and time again to be disappointed. Many of the girls in the pageant were recruited; she simply applied on her own. I know the state pageant system looks for girls who look good in person as well on paper. Could anyone on the board give me some advice?

Years ago, the pageant was looking for an engaging young women. These days, it has turned into a Junior Miss pageant for ages 18-24. It's sad, because if this is truly a scholarship pageant, then it's perfect for someone like your daughter. But it's not. At least in my state, crowns are lifetime achievement awards. You are rewarded for paying your dues if you are around long enough. It's political sometimes. If she really is interested in scholarship, she can compete, but there are so many other ways to get scholarships. Interestingly enough, little by little, the USA winners are being given scholarships to certain colleges. I'm not a fan of Trump, but if she is interested in doing pageants, USA might be better to go, especially with the modeling experience. No, it's not the most flattering picture. The problem was--and a lot of people agreed--her pro picture was so photoshopped/airbrushed, that it sort of led people on. That's why it's not good to alter your picture to the point of unreasonable. It only hurts your expectations. They were still in the habit of the pageant being in September, so even after it moved to January the prep team and/or gown sponsor still required the girls to choose their gown by July and no later. Of course fashion changes quickly, especially in the pageant world, and I think that has been evident in some of the gowns we've seen. However this year I think will be different because our reigning Miss comes from a more financially wealthy family from what I hear and they are not going to have to "scrape by" on sponsors alone; they have the money to buy the best wardrobe available and I think it's safe to say she's going to look amazing!
