I found you 16 years ago as a starving, homeless kitten and took you in. You and my other cat Dally became friends, but you were different...he was the non-social, stuck up one, you were the friendly greeter, always the purring social butterfly. You slept with me for 15 years, always preferring to be near my face to hear my breathing. Through the years you never changed...always the smart, loveable cat that could catch treats and toys in the air with your two front paws...always the one with the high-pitched meow...always by my side. You weren't like other cats, you were a people cat. In the past year you grew weary of the foster dogs that filtered through the house. You could go days without sleeping with me. Dally left us a year ago, and since then you prefer to spend your time under the bathroom sink away from all the loud noises and chaos (somehow you learned how to open the doors yourself). But even until the last day, you'd give me lots of meows and rubs when I would check on you.
A week ago today I came home to find you dead...killed by one of the dogs that had broken out of her kennel while I was at work. My heart broke as I picked up your lifeless body, as the guilt and sorrow overwelmed me. My sweet cat C.C. died a terrible death after 16 years in my care. You did not deserve this death and I'm so sorry. You were the best cat I've ever known.
