I understand exactly what your going through, I had to put my beloved friend to sleep on 5/23/03. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I had Rosie for 13 years. She was my best friend. I hope I have made the right decision also, I knew she was old and she had a hard time getting around. Recently she started to lose weight and if you knew rose, she never missed a meal. I took her to the vet and at first he gave her antibiotics for a bladder infection, it seemed to work because she started to gain weight and was getting around more. I took her back to vet three weeks later for recheck and the vet said that her red blood cell count was still low ,but she gained four pounds. That night she wouldn't eat anything, the next day she threw up,that night she still wouldn't eat so the next day I called the vet and he told me to bring her in, so the next day I rushed to the vets. The vet did an x-ray and found that her bladder was the size of a melon, he said this was not good. He told me there were a few options, he could drain her bladder and fill it with air to see if there was a tumor or since mother nature was against rosie I might want to put her to sleep. I picked the later because I felt at the time that I didn't want to put her through all this just find out it would do no good anyway, because she had annemia, bad arthritis, possible tumor in her bladder, and her age was against her. Now I'm not sure if I did the right thing. I miss her so much, my heart is truly broken. I know I'm probably no help to you, but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone in you feelings. God Bless and take care, I pray we can all find solace in the decision we made, and come to peace with it.
