My heart goes out to you on the loss of your dog,I know what you are going through.I had to put my dog Lucky to sleep on may. 5th. for the same reasons as you did yours. He is now out of pain waiting at Rainbow Bridge along with my horse Boomer, that I lost a year ago on aug.11th.I had Lucky for 13 years.I rescued him when he was dumped on the side of the road.My vet figured he was about 6 months old.He was so thin and scared. He turned out to be a great dog and a big dog for a Shepherd,he was close to 100lbs.He was so loyal and protective of his home and especially me.My husband works on the trains and is gone long hours but he was not worried as much leaving me alone when I had my Luck dog.I miss him so much and sometimes I still have a good cry.He is buried at a pet cemetary not far from us and a good friend made a lovely cross for me.I always say I won't get another dog because it hurts so much when you lose them, but I just can't be with out one.I have a Lab/Rott cross,Rocky, that is 8 years and I just got a puppy, the same cross, and named him Rebel. He was only 5 weeks old when I got him and he just turned 4 months yesterday.Rocky is not so lonely now.I hope you will both feel better soon, and you did the right thing as did I,even though it is hard.Take care.Susan.
