Subject: How will I ever do this?

My dear mother passed away three weeks ago in my arms. Although we knew she could go anyday, I am so devastated I can't function. Now, my 21 yr. old darling cat has a tumor in his mouth which is preventing him from eating. He is in pain, hitting at his mouth whenever I try to feed him, and is literally starving himself to death. The vet has advised us to put him to sleep. I know my baby is miserable, but I cannot bring myself to take that final step. First, mother, now my precious friend, companion, the love of my life, etc. What can I do?
