Mila,

My mother died last year and one of my siamese cats has squamous cell carcinoma. I have been taking him in every two weeks since he was diagnosed, so that I will recognize the signs that he is ready to leave me. My baby loves food and I know that he will chose not eating as his sign that he needs to leave because he knows that I will notice that and somehow find the courage to let him go. At the moment, I can't even imagine how I will find the courage to do what faces you now. I only hope that the love I feel for him will somehow fuel my courage to hold him and to whisper good bye as the vet does what he must do. I am but a stranger, but I know first hand the anguish that you are feeling now. It is in my very near future. Not eating is the way that your baby is telling you that it is time to say good-bye. He cannot speak your language, but is letting you know in the only way that he can. Please listen to what he is saying. You can bear your pain; I can bear mine. But your little dear one is suffering. Losing your dear mother so recently will certainly add to your pain. Losing a mother is difficult in and of itself, but to lose a beloved pet as well... If you ever need to talk to someone, I have left my e-mail address. I wish you courage and strength to make the decision that only you can make. Karen
