your stories of losing your friends are both so sad....it's clear that you loved them so much....mine was a cat - but he'd come running when I called & he used to go for walks with me - just like a dog. I feel as devastated as you.....giving myself permission to cry as much as I need to helps....and the rainbow bridge candlelight ceremony & prayer every monday helps too..... As time goes on, the pain doesn't exactly lessen...rather I realize even more what I lost...but am grateful he was in my life.
