Not as a teacher, no. I used the strap only when absolutely necessary, and when I was convinced it was needed and would be effective.
Later in my career as a vice-principal, I tried to keep the same standards but the frequency soared. Rather than dealing with just my own students I was responsible for a whole school, and often teachers would bring students to the office for the strap. As vice-principal I was responsible for discipline in the school, and this included the strap. Sometimes the teachers would administer the strap themselves, sometimes, after talking with both the teacher and the student, I would be the one to give the strap.

Rebecca, you say you didn't strap often as a teacher which implies in another role you did. Were you meaning your vice-principal days, or did you by chance strap often at home?

Yes, I was thinking of my vice-principal work, although I did have a school strap at home. I bought it through a catalog of school supplies along with several other items I wanted at the time. I remember I was anxious about just ordering a strap and so I looked through the catalog for other things I could use and put together an order of a half dozen items.
