church, really?????? That would be weird, but nice hotel ballroom or theatre is great. Knew a director who once had a state Mrs. America in a Nursing Home, lol (NT) . 10/21/13 Mon

I've seen them in the strangest places, but I really prefer a true stage - whether its a high school, theatre, community college, etc. It's just nicer and really makes you feel regal. (NT) -- which is how you want to feel, 10/21/13 Mon

I've judged a state pageant held in a church. It was actually well done. The church had a stage and an auditorium and the Sunday school classrooms were ideal for dressing rooms, interviews and judges lunch. (NT) BB 10/22/13 Tue

I've done a state pageant in a small town and it was actually pretty nice because everything was pretty cheap (which is probably why the directors chose to have it there, lol). However, since you're asking about a NATIONAL pageant, I would say a bigger city would be better because it would be easier to get to. If people have to take a plane/train/Greyhound, it's virtually impossible to go straight to a small town. You have to go to a bigger city, then drive to get to the smaller town and that is very inconvenient. (NT) -- Bigger city is easier for a national pageant., 10/24/13 Thu
I doesn't necessarily need to be IN the big city. You can get less expensive hotels their ballrooms right outside the city. My city is rightoutside the big city and it's a great place to hold a pageant. As amtter of fact our state Miss USA pageant is held here. (NT) -- BB, 11/07/13 Thu

That's absolutely true and I agree. However, I get the impression that this is the O.P.'s first pageant. Therefore, no one will know if it is a good pageant or not since it's new. For a new pageant, I say go with a big city so there will be no excuse for people not to enter. Once the pageant has proven itself, she can switch it up. If you care about making a profit (or atleast breaking even), then have it in a big (or atleast "bigger") city and make it easy for THEM. If you don't care about making money and are just doing this for fun or just to get some experience hosting your first pageant, then make it easy for YOURSELF and have it wherever you want. That can be true, that's why I said a big OR "bigger" city. When I said big city, I wasn't refering to somewhere like New York, Chicago or L.A,. I just meant a city that is easy to get to transportation wise. I've done pageants in "bigger" cities and the entry fee wasn't any more than the ones in the smaller towns. Also, a big city doesn't equal a broadway production...for that matter, neither does a large entry fee. I've done some pageants that were nicely done for a very low entry fee and have done some crappy ones with a high entry fee. I think the director just has to be creative. Having a pageant in a church has a major ick factor. Pageants are a business, glamour is front and center, and excess is often prominently displayed. Nothing is wrong with that, unless you are displaying it in a house of worship that is not about profit, glamour, or excess. (NT) No pageants in churches 12/12/13 Thu
