Yes I can totally agree on that point. I teach in Northern Ireland and have been experiencing this problem recently. I teach withdrawal groups for Literacy. The 7 year olds have been doing a lot of CVC work recently but I have found many of the children are confusing words such as mop, hot, top for the words map, hap and tap, this is all down to their local dialect. They said that I was speaking 'posh' by pronouncing the words the way I did!
